Disappointing
ADD THESE TO THE ENORMOUS “BE GOOD” SCRAP HEAP of Christian children’s literature. I wanted to love these “Bible Belles” books: they’re big and boldly illustrated and pointed at girls just like my granddaughters. But while Abigail is the belle of bravery and Esther is the belle of patience and Hannah is the belle of prayer there is not one. single. mention. of Jesus (please correct me if I am wrong). Me, I haven’t always been brave, or patient, or praying; and in the future I won’t always be brave, or patient, or praying. Soooo what I need most is not marvelous Biblical examples reduced to moral examples. What I need first and foremost is a savior, one who IS always brave and patient and praying, lest he not be a savior of an undeserving idiot like me at all. Books like these actually up the pressure on children, rather than reduce it: “Why can’t you be more like Abigail and Esther and Hannah??” With no mention of Jesus, there is no relief for children in the delight of the gospel: "You don’t measure up but that’s okay because… Jesus!" The lives of these biblical characters were lived to make a hero of Jesus, not themselves. As a side note the main character, a girl named Rooney Cruz, gains insight into the lives of these Old Testament saints via:-A Tinkerbell-like angel given to middle-school vernacular (“I know, right?”)-who uses a little rock-placed on a particular tree root; it’s Rooney’s “favorite” tree root (?)-so that a window into the past pops opens in said tree.Nothing like a magical wardrobe or lookingglass.Anyway, I read one volume to my granddaughters and asked them what they thought the message of the book was. “Be nice?” one volunteered.Exactly. These books convey a message which needs not merely to be supplemented; these books convey a message which needs to be corrected.

Fantastic books!
These books are great! They totally captured my 8 year olds attention. She is the perfect age for these stories. So exciting but she is interested in learning about women of the Bible. These are well written and fun to read aloud to my daughter.

Featured on 300 Club
These books were featured on the 300 Club so I had high expectations. They do not disappoint and are a wonderful primer for young girls to start and understand important bible stories. The seller is also terrific! These books would make a great First Communion Gift, Easter Gift, Christmas Gift or Birthday gift. They are also a great anytime gift from a God Mother or God Father.
