Szechuan Pepper Tin, Sichuan

Received these Szechuan peppercorn tins today,ordered 2 of them.They smelled so great right from the box & when I opened up the tin,the aroma was divine!!As various reviewers complained that other brands were totally filled with twigs without hardly any peppercorns in them,this particular brand on the other hand had only flavorful,totally cleaned and great tasting peppercorns.Totally recommend the product to those who are looking for the best quality Szechuan peppercorns. I know it's a bit overpriced,but totally worth it!!

To be fair, I'm not able to compare to other Szechuan peppercorns as this is the first time in my life that I've bought them. So my review is more about my experience enjoying szechuan peppercorns for the first time.Really made my chicken dish zing! I pan fried some chopped chicken breast until it was about 90% done and then added some chopped Thai chili peppers, cilantro, chopped leeks, a tablespoon of garlic chili paste, and a handful of these szechuan peppercorns. The finished dish hit all of the high notes! Spicy and then followed by the tingly numbing szechuan effect....i'm getting hungry just thinking about it now!If you like spicy food, and haven't cooked with these before you've got to give it a try! If you don't like spicy food, i'm sorry you're wrong. :)

These came in a nice tin, and although a small container the product is very nice.These little peppercorns are fragrant and have just enough bite that when used sparingly are a perfect addition to any dish you want to add spice to. I ground these with my mortar and pestle with some flake salt garlic and cilantro root and added it to a chicken marinade and it was delicious!

The Good:This has a wonderful, uniquely "smokey" flavor and definite heat to it beyond what most peppercorns carry (Side note: This is found more readily on the internet as "Sichuan" peppercorns). Its not a heat that will blow the lid off your head, but it is noticeable, however the flavor itself is very distinctive enhancing just about every dish i tried it on. The quality of this solid, though not outstanding.The Bad: I really liked the flavor I discovered with this buy, however the cost struck me as rather steep at (with shipping) its $10.95 for 0.95 oz. So I got out my Google Detective Hat and started looking finding a similar quality product for far less and even deeper discounts if I buy in greater amounts. A similar quantity (WITH shipping) was 1/3 the cost. Spending $1 more with the competitor would net me 4x more. Without hesitation I ordered the same size of this style of peppercorn and a few other spices that this vendor carried as well. I was not in the least disappointed. Granted I don't get a fancy tin and it "only" ships in a bag, but having tried both side by side I can detect no difference in taste. Thus while the quality of the product is 5 stars, i don't appreciate being gouged just because its on Amazon.

Watch out or you'll fry your lips off! The flavor and heat are great if used sparingly.

I frightened my wife when I told her I bought these pepercorns. I'm a bit more open to different products. We were both pleasantly surprised. Not only have I used these in Szechuan cooking, but I can incorporate them in other dishes. Although, it has an exotic smell and taste and can affect the overall dish. So use it sparingly, at first. The mouth tingle is interesting, not hot, a bit like mint (not in taste) or other spice. This product came in a neat little tin that's handy to use.

Yum! Perfect and just the right amount of "numbness", the pleasant numbing that only these have. I'm addicted, always have been.Great price and fast, free shipping are extra bonuses!

This is the first time I have used Szechuan Pepper. It is an interesting experience that makes your tongue tingle. Wonderful seasoning addition. The product was well packaged and very fresh. I toasted them prior to grinding and seasoning my steak and chicken. Delicious!! The tin is attractive and great for storage freshness.
