Great shoe, holds up to wear, tear and abuse. Excellent value.
I abuse these shoes and they have lasted great. I abused my first pair quite a bit and they always seemed to be covered in mud, crud from weed whacking or whatever. The laces on the first pair finally broke after getting too close to a burn pile, So I decided to get a 2nd pair that I could keep cleaner. I just knotted the laces together on the first pair and they have been ok since, though the toe is just barely starting to separate from the shoe body, but note excessively. I use these for hiking, camping, and general chores. They held up better than I expected. When I got my 2nd pair, the first ones I received had a quality issue, so I sent them back, but the replacements have been great. I'm getting my son a pair for hiking.I haven't treated with oil or anything, and the original pair do whick water in after being exposed to heavy dew or rain. A quick shot of silcon spray should fix that, but in general they keep the moisture out, though I don't know if I would call them 100% waterproof or not. I've had them long enough that I don't recall how they originally performed.Update: The rubber toe is starting to separate on my new pair sooner than my older pair did... so I'm tempted to take a star off. So far it hasn't gone past that, but it becomes a trap for dirt and pebbles. I also recently did some hiking on trails where there were a lot of rocks, and my feet were feeling it by the end of the day. But still overall an excellent value. You certainly can't find a better hiking shoe at this price, though I am purchasing a more expensive dedicated hiking boot.

LOVE these boots
My wife and I hike quite a bit around the smoky mountains and surrounding area. we are both young sixties and it keeps us in shape and entertained. We both have tried several different brands of hiking boots, some terrible, some passable. We had never tried timberlands and my wife's birthday was arriving soon and she needed a new pair. Having tried so many with less than satisfactory results I went in search and settled on timberland. Ordered hers through another retailer so if they didn't fit I could return them locally. She was pleasantly surprised with the gift and overwhelmed with the fit and quality. They fit perfectly and were so comfortable right out of the box she wore them all day. The next day we were out shopping and I looked down and saw that she had on the hikers from timberland. When I questioned her, her reply was "they are so comfortable and look great with my jeans, why not wear them". I immediately went to a locale retailer and tried on my size and they fit perfectly and were so comfortable I was tempted to buy them locally. I resisted that temptation, came home, ordered them from Amazon and had them in three days. Perfect fit and the comfort is beyond belief for me. We have gone on several hiking expeditions and they still look great, clean up easily. I'm starting to wonder if I will outlive them or they will outlast me. If I manage to wear them out I will certainly order timberland again. If they outlast me...maybe i'll leave them to my son...then again, maybe i'll take 'em with me.

Best ever boot
I have been buying this boot for over 20 years and fear the day when/if it is discontinued. For me, they are comfortable right out of the box. Almost no break-in. They are light, but tough enough to withstand heavy use. I wear them year round as my every day footwear. They are true to size (8-1/2 D) and have had almost no problems with fit and comfort. They are not insulated, but with a good pair of socks, are warm enough for a fair length of time in Michigan winters. Even with wearing them all day, every day, they last a long time (at least several years). I’ve looked at trying other brands of high end boots, but am always put off by the prices (almost $300 for comparable Red Wings that, by their own admission, require a lengthy break-in). I really don’t want to pay that kind of money to suffer with sore feet. Now for the down side and the reason I didn’t give a 5 star rating. They are not able to be resoled. The soles wear out long before the uppers (the uppers wear very well). But buying a new pair every few years at $80 beats the cost of the higher priced ones that can be re-soled (there’s a cost to that too). I did have a pair that squeeked, which was a little annoying. And since I worked in a museum in building maintenance and exhibit construction and not in a shop or at a construction site, it was a little embarrassing. All in all, I’ll keep buying them as long as they’re available.

Best boots I've ever worn! Perfect fit, super comfortable, durable/long lasting.
These are the best boots I've ever worn! I got my first pair years ago at a local sporting goods store. The store clerk talked me into them because they were his favorite boots and he raved about how comfortable they are and how well they hold up. Well, he was spot on! I can't even remember how long ago I got that first pair, but they are still going. I finally wore a hole through the side of the left boot near my little toe. Other than that, the boots are still holding up fine and they are more comfortable than ever. That original pair has been "downgraded" to my around-the-house work boots and are now covered with paint spatters and all sorts of other stains. I was stoked to find the same boots on Amazon and ordered a replacement pair in dark brown to use for work, hiking, casual out-and-about, and whatever. As expected, they fit perfectly and feel just like the originals I got years ago. These things don't even really need break-in time. I can wear them all day, no matter what I'm doing, and my feet feel great at the end of the day. My feet don't even sweat in them. And if you can believe it, after all the years I wore that original pair, they don't even smell bad! LOL I'd much rather wear these than any other shoe or boot, including tennis shoes. I have walked/hiked in these things for several miles through pretty rough terrain with no discomfort at all. I feel like I should order another couple pairs to ensure I never have to be without them!
