What a marvellous gadget
It’s says here, as I overtype the text, what did you like or dislike? How long have you got?Briefly, it’s a great piece of kit if you need steadycam like ability in your video usage with a mobile phone. I bought for exactly that reason to use on a powerboat! Funnily enough I have now realised I can’t drive a high performance boat and hold a gimbal and phone in the other. I don’t know what possessed me to think I could, just the usual male “ooh that looks shiny” type of view. But, I have used it in a rocky anchorage (that’s rocky as in the boat was rolling not the seabed!). And it’s been amazing to see the horizon held steady as the boat pitches and rolls underneath me. I’ve been back onto Amazon and am in the process of getting a stanchion mount so that I can fix it securely to the boat facing my direction of travel. From what I’ve experienced so far I have no reason to doubt it will be nothing less than spectacular. All I will add, and I’m not reducing the number of stars awarded, is that the phrasing is that which is used in the industry for which they are intended. “Tilt hold”, “FPV” AND “Pan Locked”. I have the devils own job picking what I need and getting to grips with what is best and how to use that to best advantage. YouTube is your friend when it comes to that and maybe a tame budding film director (sadly I don’t have the latter).Buy one, LEARN HOW TO USE IT, and you will open up a new world of photography and videography. Steven Spielberg had to start somewhere...

Excellent phone gimbal
Dji have a long history of making fantastic products, whether that's drones , sports cameras or gimbals. For a small, non pro Gimbal, this really is the bench mark that all of the manufacturers should be aiming for.It isn't too heavy once your phone is inserted, so extended use won't kill your arm.Balancing is simple as you are able to slide the phone around in the grip with a little effort and once it is balanced, it holds tight to your device. The motors int he gimbal seem to cope really well with the work load without generating excessive heat. The Mimi app is nice, but has room for improvement but Filmic pro on iPhone has support for the Osmo gimbal range anyway. The motors have coped ok with both my phone and the phone with an anamorphic adapter attached. Some of the app features take a little getting used to such as sensitivity of the zoom and time lapse, but once you nail those down they make much more sense!Pros- Good price- Easy to setup- Excellent features- Copes with phone and external lens attachedCons- Some Mimo features are not intuitive but once you get the hang, they are fine

Now I need a new phone!
I've been aware of these for a while now but didn't think I needed one till I saw a video for a local property which had clearly been shot using a gimbal. I do a lot of video for my business and for my band and this really highlighted what I could do with one. I did a lot of research and finally opted for the Osmo 3. It took me some time to get used to it and learn all the functions but DJI and many independent Youtubers have produced a wealth of tutorials. When I did get out and about with it I loved what I could do with it. Using the DJI app with it you can get some incredibly impressive and very cinematic results. The smart video function is quite fun but for me its the smoothness, follow and other functions that I'll be using most. My one criticism so far (and this may be partly down to my Iphone 6s battery getting old) is that it runs the battery down in minutes. I've heard this is caused by the app rather than the gimbal. Luckily it does have a usb port which accesses its own battery so I can keep my phone battery charging as I work. I can use the gimbal with my phone for hours this way. To do it all justice though I will now need a new phone - about time anyway! I'd say that for £110 the value for money here is excellent.
