STARTER MOTOR TO FIT BRIGGS AND STRATTON WESTWOOD RIDE ON LAWN MOWERS

Easy access and fit replacement. 2 bolts and power connection, took only 20 mins. Lively starting of 15 year old tractor. Great.

Bought for the same/1 day delivery as my mower was stuck when the motor gave up, the thing to know is this unit has a plastic 14 tooth gear, so you will need to swap it out with the original metal one (assuming it isn't chewed up), the swap is a pain but needed IMO, if you can wait for delivery then cheaper versions with metal gears are listed on amazon.

It fitted easily and quickly. It stated the briggs and Stratton engine, which was the main purpose of buying the starter motor in the first p!ace. A good replacement.

As the pinion assembly is plastic, it can't grip in the the engine cog. So the pinion cog just wears out the first time the ignition is started. Don't waste your money on cheaper starter motors.

I fitted this replacement part in April 2023 and it worked brilliantly for about 10 months. At around that time, the drive gear began to stick on the helical slide and wouldn't engage with the engine's drive gear. I soon discovered why. The starter motor gear is made of a hard plastic which wore badly on the inside causing it to stick on the helical slide. The old starter motor had a metal drive gear. What a shame to spoil a great replacement for the sake of a few pence. So it lasted a year and because it only came with a 6-month guarantee it had to be thrown away.
