Bought 2 of these to install in my Rosewill rackmount server case. Work perfectly! Easy to install!

Fit like a glove in a Chenbro RM42300 4U server chassis. Other review complaints about the plastic drive trays are way off base. The trays are well made and (to me) they seem better that some of the comparable "enterprise grade" trays I've used from Tyan and Supermicro. If you're swapping drives often enough to break or wear these out, you need to get better drives or invest in an external eSATA drive dock.The other common complaints - molex power connectors and connector location - are really only relevant if you're putting this in a desktop. In a server chassis, connector placement is perfect. And the clunky old molex connectors are more mechanically secure than SATA power connectors.Overall, I think the quality is fantastic for the price. This has to be one of the best values in server components I've seen in a long time. I prefer the trays over trayless designs and the fact that they're designed to accommodate both 3.5" and 2.5" drives without an adapter shows good attention to design. Cooling is the other area where this unit excels. There is good provision for airflow (within the size constraints) and the 120mm fan runs at a sane (moderate) RPM for nice quiet operation while still moving plenty of air.I can definitely say these drive cages are going to become a standard feature in all my server builds.

It came in a Newegg box. Perfect condition. Shipping seemed much more taken care of in a Newegg box. Probably because people could tell it has something fragile and expensive in it. There is a power connector on bay three that makes it difficult to put the drive in but it works nicely if you use a little force. Hot swap works nicely just be careful the disks are still spinng for a few seconds after you eject. I got it at a great deal compared to other manufactures. Matches my rosewill nautilus case but it's a little big for it. I plan on making a 4 drive raidz 2 with these after testing the drives a little. Perfect for a 4 drive raid. I'm using it externally and it works fine.New model is okay for the money too but too different to be listed on the same page as the hot swap model in my opinion. Don't put the drives in backwards like I did at first.

I could see breaking one of the tray mechanisms if it got jammed.Fan on the back may run into your motherboard components in a smaller case.Dimensions -- it's a tight fit.Other notes: Requires THREE FULL 5 1/4" bays to install. They were pretty careful to make sure it will fit in 3 bays, but there can't be any obstructions in the wrong place or it won't go in. The fan on the back made it impossible to install far enough to secure with the included screws (it ran into memory modules on MB). I ended up removing the fan (which was easy). As a result, the drives run a little hot. I will come along later and rig a smaller fan on the back in place of the 120mm fan they provided. Shame. It looks like a decent fan. If you have good airflow through your case, it might not matter for you.

I ordered one of these hesitantly because I saw the issues that talk about burning up drives and smoking etc. So before I plugged it in, I did a deep dive on how it is made and came up some thoughts on the burn up issue.1. The power input is molex and very difficult to tell the keying for the molex connector in that it merges into the black case. If you inadvertently plug in the connector wrong it will apply 12v on the 5v connection which could cause things to burn up.2. The 2 power connectors are tied in parallel. If you plug in both and they are not sourced from the exact same supply it could be a problem. IE one supply providing 12v the other supplying 13v which could cause a fight in the circuity and burn things up.Other than that the box is well made and will work. Mine so far has not burned up. I gave this a one start because of the serious design issue.

I used 3 of these to retrofit a Rosewill RSV-L4500 chassis to have hot swap bays. If you still have the origional bays for the chassis, its easy to retrofit them (see pictures) to hold all the drives in place. I've got notes in the pictures on how to make them fit. The fans are pretty quiet that come with and i haven't had any thermal issues with the drives.Each bay has 2x Molex connectors. Your power supply, especially modern ones won't have molex and you will need a adapter.I wouldn't put a drive that is thicker than 26mm in it personally. It has mounting holes for both 2.5" and 3.5" drives, so it will work well with your NAS.

Was running just fine and then a wire randomly snapped leaving my NAS in a degraded state

This was my second attempt at this type of drive cage for my media server rebuild. The first was an Icy Dock at over twice the price (did not buy at Amazon), which did not work properly and was shipped back quickly. This cage installed easily, has a larger cooling fan that runs slower (read more quietly), keeps all the drives nice & cool, and works great. I read the reviews about flimsy drive caddies, (the framework that holds the individual drives), but honestly, I have no problem with their construction or function. They are more than sufficient for their purpose (you may just not want to carry them in your tool box or bowling bag). Looks great, works great, can't hear it, and the price was right. What more can you ask for? Would buy again in a second!
