Heartwarming adventure with no bad guys
Dogs, dogs, dogs! They are just amazing to watch and so smart. This is such a touching story (based on a real experience) about a dog sled guide in the Antarctic who is forced to leave his dogs behind when a fierce storm converges on the base camp. It has two story lines. One is how the guide struggles to return and rescue his dogs and the other is how the dogs survive as a pack. Very heartwarming and I like it because it is one of the few movies these days that doesn't have any "bad guys" in it. Paul Walker and the rest of the cast were great in it.

it can't be bad. I LOVED this movie
I am a fan of Paul Walker, especially more so since he has passed. I had never seen this movie, but had heard briefly about it. I figured since it was a Disney movie and with animals, it can't be bad. I LOVED this movie! Takes place in Antarctica with his eight snow dogs. The scientists/crew members are forced to leave due to health injuries and an upcoming storm. They intend to return for the dogs, but they inadvertently are left to fend for themselves due to the inclement weather. It has some sad parts, but in my opinion it's not too horrible for kids. I would just recommend sticking to what the official ratings are for the film. Otherwise, all audiences will love this film. HIGHLY recommend!

I love this movie!
I saw this movie when it first came out. Paul Walker is great, but the real stars are the dogs. My favorite scene is when the dogs leap around and try to catch the Northern Nights reflected on the snow. There is one very brief scary moment when a leopard seal jumps out of nowhere. The little boy in front of me let out a yell, threw his box of popcorn in the air, and fled the theater. I had to get up to shake off the popcorn that landed on me. But seriously, the acting of the dogs has to be seen to be believed.

Had to refuse delivery since cancellation was too late. Still want the bluray dvd, but Amazon was selling a Disney film that won't play on United States electronics. If you live in Greenland, great choice.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!
I love this movie. It's based on a true story and is so beautifully done. When the dogs are forced to fend for themselves and live on their own for 175 in the worst storm in 25 years in the Antarctica, it is so incredible to see how they care for each other - how they help one who had trouble, how they respond to one who died, etc. This is a truly amazing story for every member of the family. I also think this movie is cast with remarkable actors and actresses, not one we may have seen a lot of, but ones who seemed absolutely perfect for the role they played.

If you are a dog lover and a fan of the late Paul Walker, don't sleep on this movie. A must have!
One of my favorite movies, as a dog lover of 3, as well as a big fan of the handsome late Paul Walker. To me this movie has everything. Before owning it I would watch it every time it came on TV and each time with the same emotions as if I were watching it for the first time. Just a beautiful family movie. Thank you so much. I think I'm now going to purchase it again only this time in Blue Ray if I can find it. :)

The connection Jerry Shepard had with his dogs was beautiful to see
If I could give it 10 stars I would. The connection Jerry Shepard had with his dogs was beautiful to see. Watching how hard he tried to save his dogs after he had to leave them was beautiful, exciting, and sad at times. This movie is a tear-jerker and not recommended for under 12 due to scary challenges the dogs face during their journey.

Great movie! One of the best I've evre seen.
I really love this movie. I watched this movie on cable around the time it was released and I thought about it often over the years. After I saw it again recently I knew that I had to own it. Although these dogs had been cared for, they still knew how to survive on their own. Like with humans, the dogs were able to lead and follow to survive. There were actually two stories. One was Paul Walker's story where he was trying to get back to the dogs he had left behind and the other was the dogs determination to survive when and if he came back. If you're reading this review, buy this movie and enjoy.

The Survival Of The Fittest. An Excellent Film. A Must Watch.
I got this film earlier than I expected. I usually write up a good review if I think the film is worth it. To start with, this is a must see film. Fabulous scenery and the dogs are I would say the stars of this film. Read the write up for this film first. This is one brilliant film and it will keep you glued to your seat. Some of it is sad but there are other times you will be thinking, how the devil did the dogs survive what they went through. This is one of those films of human endurance. Or should I say dog endurance. Will the dogs die ?. Will they survive ?. I am not going to tell you as that would spoil it for you who have not yet seen this film. Its also a very heart warming film. I am going to give it 10 out of 10. Wonderful acting, damn good directing and to me the dogs are the real stars. So they should be after what they go through. This film will bring your emotions together and you may well cry. All in all a damn good film and a must see. This film is more than brilliant. PC. 24. 12. 2017. Ps, watch out for the seal. It may make you jump out of your skin.

A Disney Classic Feel Good Movie.
A really entertaining feel good family movie from the Walt Disney studios. It tells the story of a guy who is separated from his beloved dogs when he was forced to evacuate from his science research station in the very far north. The dogs survive by sticking together as a pack.It is a heart warming tale which is suitable for people and children of any age.I almost forgot I was British and came close to giving an American style "whoop" when they were all reunited.A great entertaining film for one of those family Sunday afternoons.

Eight Below
In the Antarctic, after an expedition with Dr. Davis McClaren, the sled dog trainer Jerry Shepherd has to leave the polar base with his colleagues due to the proximity of a heavy snow storm. He ties his dogs to be rescued after, but the mission is called-off and the dogs are left alone at their own fortune. For six months, Jerry tries to find a sponsor for a rescue mission while his dogs fight for survival. Excellent purchase.

The Killing Fields - with dogs
Loosely inspired by the ill-fated 1958 Japanese Antarctic expedition that inspired 1983's Nankyoku Monogatari/Antarctica but updated to 1993 just before sledge-dogs were banned from the continent, Eight Below makes a decent attempt at trying to Disneyfy the more tragic true story into a snowbound Incredible Journey. Whereas the real incident saw 15 Huskies left on the ice when their handlers were unable to return to their base, only two of whom survived when the explorers returned a year later, in this all American version the dogs fare much better. But more than the lower canine body count, Frank Marshall's film doesn't seem to trust the dogs to carry the picture, so when Paul Walker and a wounded Bruce Greenwood are forced to leave their dogs behind by an encroaching storm, rather than focus on the dogs ingenious attempts to survive in a hostile landscape, it constantly takes us away from their plight to focus on Walker's guilt trip as he tries to raise the money for a rescue mission, ending up feeling like The Killing Fields with dogs. Like Joffe's film it's at its best when it's a simple survival story and at its most redundant and padded when its back in civilisation, giving it a stop/start rhythm that takes you out of the story just when it starts to get going. There's some spectacular widescreen cinematography, with Canada standing in for Antarctica again, and a good fight between the dogs and a leopard seal, and while it's far from a complete success there's enough that works for the ending to earn a little bit of emotional weight.Unfortunately the 2.35:1 widescreen DVD's picture quality isn't quite as impressive as it could be, perhaps because of the huge number of subtitle tracks on the PAL version eating up disc space. Decent extras include two audio commentaries, 5 deleted scenes and a making of featurette, but no sign of the trailer listed on the packaging. While the Blu-ray release offers a significant improvement, it drops all extras (though the US Blu-ray includes one of the DVD's two audio commentaries by Marshall, Walker and cinematographer Don Burgess, it's absent from the international release), offering only a short film, Blu-Scape - Ice .

Great Movie
This is a story about a man that looks after a dog team in the antartic and goes on a mission with a professor in search of a special rock. After they leave the base station bad weather starts to settle in, so they are told to return to home base by the next day. They find what they are after, but things start going wrong from here on in. The action is fantastic and storyline is even better. With great actors Paul Walker and cast makes this a sit up and take notice show, marvelous performances from the dogs. If you love animals this is a bit of a tear jerker and it's not a kids show. You'll never forget this movie. I rated this an A grade plus for keeping the entertainment going full on with excitement and suspense around every corner waiting for everything to come right with a great ending what else could you ask for. Now it's time for a fabulous night in with your popcorn and movie, relax put your feet up and rest so now get comfortable for the start of a wonderful movie. Enjoy!

Stranded in Antarctica
An excellent adventure film where the owner of a team of huskies is forced to abandon them in Antarctica for the winter. This is based on a true story. Although made by Disney it is not over-sentimentalised . A must if you love huskies.

An epic tale of what lengths a guy would do to get back to his group after a split of bad weather. The late Paul Walker plays another brilliant part in this and I love it. Shows good and bad things throughout the film, how a pack of 'dogs' survive.. Based on a true story, I love it. Recommended :) Tissues optional extra if you think you might need them!

Kept my attention. A bit harrowing in places.
This was a good film, I enjoyed it. But it was a bit harrowing in places. If you have problems with animal death, you'd probably better not watch this one. There was a lot of suspense. And like all nature stories, you need to be aware that life can be brutal.Worth watching.

dog's and a good bitter/sweet (spoiler - not all the dogs make it
My girlfriend loves Paul Walker, dog's and a good bitter/sweet (spoiler - not all the dogs make it!) feel good film so this film is heaven for her. Based on a true ill fated 1958 Japanese expedition where two dogs survived, the story is brought up to date and given the Disney work over. If this is your thing then watch and enjoy. Snuggled up on a sofa one Sunday afternoon even I, a professional grump enjoyed!

Wrap up well to watch this because there's plenty of chills and spills to entertain. The huskies and malamutes have the starring roles and rightly so... gorgeous creatures that they are.If you are expecting a deep plot and a clever script then look elsewhere, but if you want pure dazzingly white entertainment this might just your thing.

Tale of Survival
I've wanted to watch this ever since reading the film review when first shown, and now I've purchased the DVD. I'm not disappointed and found it a heartwarming story of a man's devotion to return to his sled dogs, but more importantly, how the dogs survive the most unforgiving winter fending for themselves. The dogs are brilliant, and the bonus features show how they were trained and how many dogs were used. It's a great story of Jerry's determination to be reunited with his beloved dogs and the huskies devotion and belief in one other in order to achieve survival. It's a pity they don't all survive - but that's life! The scenery is also stunning.

Wonderful film about perseverance and courage
A wonderful film about perseverance and courage. The dogs are beautiful and are amazing actors! There are sad moments that bring tears to your eyes, and several perilous incidents - but ultimately this is an uplifting tale of endurance. We all enjoyed it very much!

great film for husky lover
i loved this film it has everything a family film needs highs and lows love the extras on the dvd how its made it show you how huskies behave when given the chance when you watch the film you get the idea why you are told to keep a husky on lead as they can catch birds out of the sky and can get in to all sorts of trouble so if you love huskies buy this film if you dont buy it just for the great story of dogs surviving on their own and a man who fights to get back to save them
