It really amazed me. I for sure would buy another one ...
I purchased a surgical black Arkansas from Dan’sIt is 3” X 8” X 1/2”The first thing I did was to use my straight edge to check for flatness.I held it up to the sunlight and moved the straight edge over the entire top as well as the bottom of the stone. I could not believe how flat both sides are. It really amazed me. I for sure would buy another one from Dan’sI’m happy in the fact that I won’t have to resurface this extremely hard natural surgical black anytime soon. That’s a real bonus especially if you don’t have a finishing plate.I’m really happy that all six main surfaces are finished to perfection.Great job on a great stone!

Wide enough for many of my larger knives
I own a variety of sharpening stones, two sided diamond, Japanese wet, and my favorite Arkansas oil stones. The new black Arkansas is the second to last step in achieving a razors edge. After stopping you’re able to shave with any of my knives.

Awesome bench stone, hones my razor perfect, stone was very flat on both sides
Awesome product, Dan's cost alltel more but they are actually cheaper when you consider the other supplyest do not grade there stones like he does, when you order from Dan's you will get an awsome cutting stone every time. That is do bad many people are disappointed with Arkansas stone because of this. I love my diamond stones to but they are not the polishing cut these produce

Expensive Stone, but Worth It!
I am using this stone to hone my Dovo Gentleman straight razor. It works extremely well. It removes just the right amount of metal. I make about 15 - 20 complete passes and then strop well. The razor is then perfect for shaving. Very Sharp!

Not as fine as a Naniwa 12k. Prove me wrong.
I want to start out by saying this is an amazing natural stone. It is 98% flat out of the box. I got the full set of Silicone Carbide powders and went from 60 grit to 2000 on a glass plate in under 30 min. I then burnished it with chisel and it came out semi mirror finished but smooth as glass.I was used to finishing on my Naniwa 12k so I was like, game on! Well, I have finished several knives on this now and they look super nicely polished for a blade. For a straight razor, not so much. I took a T.I. Razor that was shaving fantastically at 12k blunted it and went 8k,12k, surgical black, strop. It went from 12k polish to surgical sheen so I shaved with it to see how it did.The shave was good until it came to the trouble areas on my face. I felt so much tugging I wanted to stop but I wanted to get it over with. For the first time in ages I had white heads in those trouble spots. In grown hairs.I took the same razor, blunted the edge, 8k, 12k, strop. The difference was night and day. The edge was back! The next week I went 8k, Dan’s surgical black and then 12k. Finally!! The super mirror polish and super slick shave I had never had before. So is this really a super finisher? Did I do something wrong? I’d like someone to enlighten me but this stone being prepped the way I’ve been told to prep it is no where near as fine as the 12kTake it for what it’s worth. Great for small blades, hunting knives and kitchen cutlery.
