DARK STAG KAMISORI Cut Throat Shaving Razor Shave Barber Blade

I enjoy shaving with my traditional straight razors. From time to time, they need sharpening. That means getting out the stone set, wood strops and leather strop and setting aside some time to get the job done. I don't mind that and it is sort of relaxing to me, but it's not always convenient. Sometimes you just want or need to get a good shave. That's where this little gem comes in. It's basically a shavette razor that uses double edge blades that you snap in half. The razor is well made and has a comfortable handle that's easy to hold on to. Mine came with a mirror polish and the cover fits nice and snug. It uses that same blades as my vintage Gillette Fatboy and Slim razors so there's nothing extra to buy and blades are super cheap compared to cartridge razors. Just snap a blade in half while it is in the paper and you have yourself 2 blades ready to go. This would be a good razor for someone that wanted to try straight razor shaving, but without having to make the investment in a traditional straight razor and all of the maintenance items. The blade cover slides off so you can put the blade in and then slip it back on. Mine was very hard to remove the first time I tried it, but once I oiled the pins and spring the cover goes on and off easily now so I think that is the trick. Just like a traditional straight razor you will need to practice and get your technique down. This razor requires a slightly different technique as the shave angle is different. Use a light touch and let the razor do it's job. Also, do yourself a favor and buy an assorted blade pack with Shark, Feather, Derby, Gillette, etc. You can get a 15 brand sample pack over on a popular auction site. This will let you try different blades and find the ones that work the best for you in this razor. For example, I prefer the Gillette 7 O'clock blades in this razor. They shave well and don't irritate my skin. Feather blades are too sharp in this razor for me, but they work fine in my vintage safety razors. You just need to experiment. I really enjoy using this razor and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

A little difficult to change razor blade but using it for a full shave the best I’ve used. The Design makes it safer not to cut your client. I love the weight. Highly recommend

I purchased this razor because I’m already a regular Double Edge razor user and I liked the idea of having a Kamisori style razor that was compatible with the disposable blades I already use. And that’s where this Dark Stag razor really shines.Most Kamisori razors are either traditional straight razors (a single piece of steel you have to sharpen/hone yourself) or utilize a very specific long, narrow blade for the shavette version.But with the Dark Stag Kamisori, you can use any standard double edge razor blade just by snapping it in half. This is great because I can use a full blade if I want to use my DE razor, or snap a blade in half if I want to use this razor. No need to buy specific blades for either device.There is a learning curve with the wider head because you do lose a little bit of visibility. But overall, it’s a solid razor and even comes with a cheap but appreciated small leather pouch for storage.I would say this razor is not for the faint of heart and should only be used by experienced wet shavers (I’ve been wet shaving for years and even I’ve nicked myself a couple of times with this razor) so I wouldn’t run out and buy this razor for your new-to-shaving son, but if you’re someone with a decent amount of wet shaving experience and are looking for a pretty badass razor for your collection, this one is pretty cool to have.

Really nice product for the price. Works well and was exactly what I was looking for.

Overall the item works well and the blade mechanism idea is great, it is copying the artist club style shavettes. However, where this fails is the finish on the item makes it look like it should be worth half the price if even that. The little spring clip looks like it was soldered on by an apprentice, the chrome plating is poor and the black handle even looks banged up. These pictures were taken of it new upon arrival and unboxing, it doesn’t look used to me just a poorly crafted product. I could have also just received a dud that slipped quality control but I see another comment talking about the poor finish as well. I don't expect mirror polish finish for this price but something a little nicer, it looks worse in person. I will still be keeping it though as I will only be using it lightly for lining up my sideburns.
