Little, simple grinder great for diyer
I only have to sharpen the chain on my stihl arborist chain saw maybe twice a year as I have 13 full-sized maples to maintain. Doing so with a file is a pain and frankly I didn't do it well. Too impatient I guess. So needing to sharpen a badly worn blade after hitting rocks implanted in a neighbor's willow stump, I looked into something better and easier. My frequency of sharpening didn't justify an expensive pro-grinder, so I did my usual over-the-top-research and found the mini-grinder. I trust Oregon products so bought it hoping I didn't end up with a low-quality useless tool. I refuse to buy cheap tools so took a chance.I breezed through the manual (I'm impatient, remember) and wasn't ready to start so watched a few youtube videos to understand the concept. The concept is simple so applied it to the simple Oregon mini-grinder. It doesn't have all the adjustments that professional grinders have, but it has the basics that they have. So in maybe 15 minutes of playing with the few adjustments the mini has, I was ready to try it. I had to change the wheel that came with the unit. Don't quite see why they install the thin wheel at the factory as the thicker one is what is used for sharpening most chains. Regardless, it was easy to change. The first grind taught me how to do more very minor adjustments to the depth and amount of cut. Then I did more grinding and the adjustments held true. I whizzed through the cutters facing one way. When I rotated the chain holder for the other cutters I was pleased to see that the settings held and quickly did the rest of the chain. I then removed the chain to closely inspect my work. The cuts were very good. Plenty good enough for this hard-core diyer. I checked the sharpness on a few cutters and now have a bandaid on a finger to prove how sharp an edge the grinder produced. So I am very pleased with the grinder. Thanks Oregon for making it a good value for a non-professional customer who wants a good job.

Light Duty Chainsaw Grinder
This is a light duty chain saw grinder for touch ups and occasional use. It is simple and convenient to set up and use; takes up little space in storage or use; and is very quiet. It does not have the power or versatility of a full sized grinder, but can sharpen chains with a light touch and patience. It is not a good choice for restoring heavily damaged ('rocked') chains, for heavy use, or for larger chains (e.g. .404 pitch). This model has several advantages over similar grinders: cast aluminum base instead of plastic; comes with 2 wheels (1/8 and 3/16 wheels) for 1/4 to 3/8 pitch chains, a wheel dressing brick, a wheel gauge, and extra motor bushings; and a better chain positioning 'dog' which holds the cutters secure. Also comes with a pretty clear user manual. Also comes with a 2 year warranty and Oregon support, which is very helpful.Works better with Oregon replacement wheels, made in Italy, than OEM wheels, made in China - different grit, noticeable performance improvement.

Easy to use and does a great job
Living on 60 acres of oak woodland, a tree (or two) falls every year. Keeping up with fallen trees and trimming standing oaks requires a sharp chainsaw. The Oregon sharpener quickly puts a new edge on my chains so they cut hard oak like butter. Instructions are clear and you can sharpen a chain in less than 5 minutes.

Just Buy It
Wish I had purchased this sooner. Super easy to set up and get good results. I've been cutting dead gambel oak that kills chains. I have several to swap out and keep cutting, then sharpen all of them at the end of the day. I dont mind touching up a chain with a file if I'm out away from the property, but this is so much faster and efficient. Definitely a light duty "occasional" use set up. If you make a living with a saw, you should probably spend the money on the upgraded version. This model is great for someone that runs a saw on the weekends.

Good tool
Works better than I expected. A bit of a learning curve getting it set right but then processes well.

I will never hand file a chain again.
This sharpener has a cast aluminum base, which makes for more accurate and consistent sharpening of the chains. It paid for itself the first day, sharpening every chain I own. My sharpened chains cut better and last many times longer than new ones. Since getting every cutting tooth ground exactly the same I haven't had the slightest hint of kickback. Re-sharpening requires minimal amounts of grinding, which extends the life of the chain.
