Q: How much weight can this handle? Could it spin-dry clothing, do you think?

It can spin-dry clothes. I do one thick bath towel at the time because of the weight. I can fill lots of socks and underwear. Can handle full-size sheet. Not sure about queen size because the sheet made of flannel of this size is too heavy. Depending on how much laundry I spin dry, one bath towel takes me about one minute; pants, shirts, sweaters between two to three minutes.The chef master can wobble if the laundry is thrown inside. I do not wash the clothes in the can for two reasons: can't use hot water in the can and turning the handle with water and laundry is too strenuous. Also, it comes with a brake. I suggest not to use it. Just let go of the handle and let it spin down. If you use the brake, parts of plastic on the rim might be rubbed off. If you use this for camping, as back-up, or one person living in apartment, this can is great. But beware that spin-drying the laundry by hand takes some strength. I'm middle-age and have done this for the past four months. If you suffer from back pain, I recommend electric laundry spinner, also sold on amazon. Hope I answered your question.

Sorry, can't answer I bought mine in 2014. It did have a brake to stop spinning. Using the brake caused the plastic on lid to be shaved and the spaghetti-like plastic dropped into the tub.
