Bloody Times is bloody-good reading.
This was truly an enlightening book. One beloved character about whom we think we know so much, is made more human in death. One character who has been reviled by history is give a humanness and nobleness denied him across the ages. The evenhandedness with which James Swanson approaches these two fully American men of history is, by itself, worth the read. But he does so much more than that. He brings them both back to life and teaches us lessons in so doing.

Good, but can easily lose interest
It's a good book. Very informative if I do say so myself, but unless your a History fanatic, you could easily get lost or just simply lose interest. The book is full of information worthy of any type of report or historic article, but it's very slow at the beginning. I almost but the book down completely by chapter 3.Other than the long period of time for the book to get going, it's very good!would recommend it to a friend.

History told with effort and dignity. Educating about two men who had their own belief and died with honor from their people
Enjoyable, educating, history of hate and love of the people. Two men and their beliefs. Read it just because I like history

Spotty and choppy
Swanson's book about the manhunt for Booth was a memorable, well-written tale. This one can't hold a candle to it. Perhaps the limitations of his subject matter are the reason for this book's rushed, repetitive and sketchy feel. Still, I found the book fairly interesting.

Bloody Times: Great historyr book for middle grades!
I teach middle school and after students thoroughly enjoyed "Chasing Lincoln's Killer," I purchased "Bloody Times" and everyone likes it, too! Both of them are wonderful, historical nonfiction and the ones who read them like them a great deal.

A good read
I have read many books on the subjects of Lincoln's assassination and the Civil War era. This piece filled in some of the gaps for me.
