Great Book
I teach yoga. I am greatly influenced by Iyengar and teachers who have trained in that style. This book is such a great resource for ways to use the chair not to necessarily make life easier. I use this book to help me design my classes all the time. For different ways to enter a pose depending on the goal of it; for ways to help us understand our own body's idiosyncrasies in alignment; for accessing the pose; for teaching about how the pose feels in a solid alignment. This book is such a great resource for all of that. I highly recommend this book for all yoga practitioners/ students/teachers.

Yoga chair modifications
There is a misnomer called Chair Yoga. No such thing exists. However, you can use a chair to enhance a Yoga practice in practical, therapeutic and challenging ways. This book shows the creativity of the Iyengar method and ways to progress.

A useful reference for an experienced, accomplished yoga teacher
I call this book "scary chair yoga" because this impressive collection of chair poses was compiled by a hard-core Iyengar teacher and is not for beginning students. Postures for beginners, the disabled, and elderly students are tucked away at the back of the bus, and seem to be an afterthought. Many postures are demanding, and some look downright risky, precarious balances on two chairs. Note the cover photo, where the author, who is very tall (unlike this reviewer), painfully balances his hip on the edge of the chair to do a difficult variation of side plank. The pose using the chair this way is impossible for a shorter person. And if you have this joint mobility and upper body strength, why bother to use a chair? Having pointed out why I have deleted a star, I do find the book full of useful ideas. Just be very careful when assigning any of these chair postures for students.
