Q: Does the cool shor button have to be held down during drying or can you press it once to turn the function on/off?

You must hold the button down yourself for cooler air. It is an off/on switch.

Q: what is the diameter of the nozzle opening?

The outside diameter is 1 11/16 inches and the inside diameter is 1 9/16 inches. I did have a little difficulty fitting the nozzle but it finally went in. Best, Ricardo

Not unusually large, but bigger than a travel dryer.

Q: How long is the electric cord?

I would say it is 8 to 9 feet long. It is without a doubt the longest cord I have seen on a dryer and it is very light weight.
