Tailor-made for busy parents - smart construction, no tools needed, blends in seamlessly, protects little fingers
I spent way too much time googling door hinge guards, and after much deduction, this was the best choice for functionality and clean look. You get 2 shields in a set. The narrower shield is for the hinge side of the door, and the wider shield is for the other side. But psst -- guess what?! I've found the two shields interchangeable on my doors when applied correctly. As another reviewer recommended, you could also cut them in half and get 4 shields out of 2, but then it doesn't provide a clean look, if you care about that. Plus, it's hard to cut the material -- regular scissors may result in a slightly irregular edge. But it's totally do-able if you want to save money.Installation (5 stars) -- Instructions are visual and straightforward. Someone clearly thought out the directions and streamlined them to be a minimal and intuitive as possible. It says 5 minutes to install, but if you haven't applied these before, you'll need some more time. Busy parents save a few minutes of time as the adhesive is already applied, so you just peel off the backings, and if you follow the directions exactly, there should be no issue.Material (4 stars) -- The shield appears to look like plastic-coated foam core but feels more sturdy. It is light and flexible, due to scored lines running down the middle of each shield that allow flexing without breaking. I found it better to pre-fold the scored lines for maximum flexibility. so this took a little longer to prep before applying. I worry that that scored lines will fall apart with repeated use, but only time will tell if these hold up over the years. The adhesive is quite strong.Performance (5 stars) -- works as described. keeps out tiny fingers, and puts worries at ease.Appearance (5 stars) --- if you have white doors and frames, its totally unobtrusive and practically disappears. You barely notice it. Highly recommended.

Peace of mind knowing no one will lose a finger!
This product finally gives us peace of mind. The door to our bathroom has a large gap by the hinges and as we are starting toilet training, he will be opening and closing the door more frequently on his own. Unlike getting fingers pinched near the doorknob end of the door which just causes some crying and soreness, getting fingers caught by the hinge can cause lost fingers. My husband's parents are doctors and have seen it happen. I would never have forgiven myself if it happened to our son when we could have prevented it. I am happy to say that this worked like a charm! I loved that the installation did not require any hardware, as we are renting. The quality is excellent, and the design was well thought out.The side that goes on the "inside" of the door (i.e. where you cannot see the hinges) does create new pinch-points so it's not like there is no way you could still cause a boo-boo, but there is no longer any risk of lost fingers or serious damage.

Our bathroom door swings into the hallway. On the ...
Our bathroom door swings into the hallway. On the hallway side, the shield is still intact. On the bathroom side, which expands outward, the adhesive lost its hold after about 1-2 months. The kids mostly open the door maybe 3/4 of the way full, sometimes they are curious and push it all the way. Well, I guess it doesn't hold up too much to children, which is what these are intended to protect. We pop the adhesive back when it pops off, but it comes off again after a day or so. I wish the shield could have extended more. Even at partially open (the door at a 90-degree angle) I could see it was stressed to near it's limit. Yes, I have read the instructions, which includes diagrams, on which piece to put on which side of the door. Everything lays correctly when door is closed.

Peace of mind
I bought these for our last house and purchased again for our new house. These guards give me peace of mind knowing that my girls aren’t going to smash their fingers when they’re running around the house and playing. These are very sturdy, long lasting, easy to install.

Prevent Severed Fingers
This product is a must-have for parents or anyone that work in a facility with infants, toddlers and school-age children! I am the director of a speech therapy clinic and I can't tell you the number of times that this product has prevented accidents at the establishment where I work. The installation is seamless and the security it provides is unrivaled. Trust me, it's worth it to spend the money on investing in this product to prevent severed fingers and/or lawsuits. You can replace this product if it becomes worm down but you cannot replace a finger!

Works great!
This works great. I feel comfortable now letting my 18 month play in the door entry where her book shelf is located while I can watch from the next room. It’s been installed for a few weeks and tape is staying fine. I bought another. I would buy for every door if they were less expensive. Would be nice if they offered a bulk discount. We have 5 doors. I wonder if they will work for the gap in bifold doors that have been causing arm pinches from leaning against them?
