Great Carb for 1976 F-150 300CI/4.9L
I don’t write many reviews but made an exception in this case. I ordered this carb for my 1976 F-150 4x4 with the reliable old 300 CI (4.9L) ‘straight 6’ engine. I was considering getting a rebuilt unit when I ran across this carb, which is actually much cheaper than a rebuild. I’ll have to admit that I was skeptical considering the suspiciously low price, but finally decided to take a chance. The carb arrived within a week, and was packaged very nicely. There were only a couple very minor issues I encountered while installing it:The stud holes in the carb-to-manifold gasket that came with the carb did not quite match up with the mounting studs on the manifold. It would have been very easy to slightly elongate the holes in the gasket with a razor blade or sharp knife, but I decided to just reuse the old gasket. The other minor issue was that I could not attach the air cleaner housing to the new carb because the thread on the carb was not the same as the air cleaner housing attaching bolt. However, this was easily fixed by taking off the small bar over the throat of the old carb that the air cleaner housing attaches to (it is held on the carb by 2 small bolts and easily removed) and swapping it with the one on the new carb. Took about 5 minutes. After attaching hoses and throttle cable to the carb I took one precaution: I tapped the carb bowl with the handle of a screwdriver just in case the needle valve became stuck after long storage (an old trick).I then started the truck expecting to spend some time adjusting idle speed and mixture screws. To my surprise, the truck started immediately and idled and ran like a champ with absolutely no adjustment needed! I’ve run the truck several days now with no problem whatsoever. It runs as smoothly now as on the day I got it 35 years ago! This carb is indeed a bargain.Howard

WOW JUST SAVED $200 TO $300
I HAD A 1986 FORD F350 THAT STARTED HARD, FOULED THE PLUGS AND LOCAL MECH TRIED 3X TO REPAIR ORGINAL CARB. I PRICED NEW CARBS FROM FORD AND OTHERS AND WENT INTO SHOCK! AGAINST MY BETTER JUDGEMENT BUY WITH ADVICE FROM MECH--HE SAID GO FOR IT ONLINE. I AM SO HAPPY--TRUCK STARTS RIGHT UP, NO BLACK SMOKE, AUTOMATIC CHOKE NOW WORKS AND IT WAS A 10 MINUTE INSTALL. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT THIS WAS A GOOD DEAL...AND FASTER THAN EXPECTED SHIPPING! BILL

Be Careful......
Well....to start with it did arrive on time...that's the end of the good. I received an Amazon box that was sealed and no damage. Upon opening that box was a second box. I noticed that the second box had been opened and had some smudge on it... when I opened the box the carb was in pieces and smelled like it had just came off an engine...as I looked closer at the pieces I noticed that the carb was full of dirt and grime... evidently some else had purchased it and returned it after using it then was boxed up and sent to me. So all together I've got about 3 to 4 wasted days just with this. So buy with caution...

Easy and great performance
Received product in good shape. There were a few minor differences but worked through it. As others have said they used the old carb part where the air cleaner attaches. No big deal. Tapped the float bowl with a screwdriver handle a couple times to make sure float wasn’t stuck from shipping. Turned the ignition switch on and cycled the electric fuel pump. Pressed on the accelerator pedal to set choke. Hit start and it ran right away. Made minor idle adjustments Walter it was warm and choke was open. Went back and only made slight adjustments to idle mixture and choke throttle speed. It was so close, my adjustments were slight at best. Runs and drive better than the old carb after putting a kit in it.1978 Ford 300 6 cyl.

Inspect first!
Received the carburetor and since some reviews say they had leaks and whatnot, I inspected everything. I could fit a guitar pick in the float bowl gasket area because the screws were not tightened enough. I used my calibrated elbow of a torque wrench and tightened everything up. If you see a screw, make sure it's snug. I installed no problem. I had no leaks and didn't need to make any adjustments. My 1980 ford f150 started right up. The automation choke worked perfect. I think I had to adjust the idle a tiny bit but some fine tuning is expected, even if you get an expensive carb. I would give it 5 stars if I didn't have to do what the assembler was supposed to do. Great carb!
