Unifi Equipment is Terrific

I've been a systems administrator for 13 years and I've dealt with many different brands of networking equipment. The Unifi line is durable, feature-rich, and incredibly easy to setup and manage. I presently have 2 complete systems including USG, switch, Cloud Key, and Pro APs at 2 different locations. Cloud key management makes managing your different sites from your smartphone a snap. This switch is incredibly durable. I had one mishap where it fell about 3.5 feet and I cringed, but it never skipped a beat. Stayed connected, no malfunctions (although I wouldn't recommend repeating this). It effortlessly powers multiple APs, IP cams, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

As fantastic as all other Ubiquiti Unifi products

Someone introduced me to UniFi access points a few months ago and I went nuts and ended up buying two UniFi PRO APs, the UniFi Security Gateway, and two UniFi POE switches (including this 16-port model that I am reviewing). It was found, automatically updated, and adopted into my network without me doing a thing except connecting the wires. I run the UniFi controller software on a Raspberry Pi (try it!) instead of using a cloud key. Everything just works so wonderfully and I never have any issues with any of the hardware from Ubiquiti. BIG FAN!This switch doesn't get as warm as I was expecting it to, but I still have it in a cabinet with fans, of course. It is quiet and the POE+ gives me the flexibility of connecting POE devices when needed, like the UniFi APs and another 8-port switch. It's well-built and comes with mounting hardware. Love it.

If you are willing to manage through Unifi, this is a good switch to get

Great device to implement when you need a mix of active and passive PoE. If you are considering this no doubt you are already familiar with configuration via Unifi. In my case I am using it for several of the devices offered by Ubiquiti which include a few cameras, an access point, and the unifi cloud key. Once configured, all work as expected without issue. The Active PoE is configured by default and any at/af devices will simply request an appropriate configuration and off you go.The passive PoE does have to be manually configured for the ports you intend to use it on. I failed to realize that this is not intelligently delivered power and long story short put 24V on my tongue while working on one of the camera installations. This unit does have fans in it, they appear to always kick on at 70C. Not overly loud, especially with the door closed. I expect with proper ventilation (mine is in a large closet) you may not ever hear them.I intend to finish pairing this with a regular 24 port Unifi switch to handle other non PoE connections since this is way more expensive per port.

The best switch on the market and I am a master IT enginner I used them all. I will never buy cisco or dell again.

Amazing switch, For others since this is almost impossible to find someone confirm this. This switch will run poe passive 24 and poe+ it will power 48x and 24v devices and all UBNT devices but you have to program the proper type of poe on the port. UBNT Unifi switch's are the most advanced I have even seen and used. I will never buy a cisco or dell again. And the price is amazing The fiber ports will run 10g also. I use a 1gig GBIC uplink 1meter cable to uplink it into another switch in the rack. You can get them on here or ebay for 10bux. Get a cloud key and all UBNT stuff and it works amazing. The ability to Vlan in 10 seconds anything you want and not spend hours trying to figure out how and local or remotely reboot a single POE port from my phone from home to reboot a POE camera or Acces point is amazing. This is an award winner.

Great switch but not required

Unifi equipment is top notch. Nothing more needs to be said. Easy adopt and simply works. That all said they are not required to have if you have other unifi equipment. And over kill if you don’t have a unifi ap or cloud key.

Excellent! You can do so much with the admin tools they provide

If you understand the whole Ubiquiti product line, and know how to deploy these switches, you will also know these are a great value. This switch powers my entire household network. I have 5 WAP's, 2 security cams, and 2 VoIP phones running on it now.Read the deployment guides before you buy so you understand what to do if you have never setup network gear before. For anyone with Ethernet networking experience, these things are a snap. Keep in mind that these not basic consumer-grade products. These are professional-grade devices used in many industrial, educational, and other locations. That is why they are more expensive. It is not a fair comparison to line these up with your NetGear all-in-one devices. You can do so much with the management tools for Ubiquiti. I use the tools to monitor, and setup Time-of-Day wifi access for my children. The wifi turns on at a set time, and turns off at the set time. No more arguing about wifi access times.

Loud Fan

Works well, runs fairly cool. With only 30W of POE power being drawn total, the fan duty cycle is about 50%. But when the fan is on, it is loud. Way louder than a desktop tower PC. I have it up high in a broom closet behind a slatted door, and you can hear it down the hallway. Not objectionable at that distance, but it is quite noticeable. Unfortunately, there aren't many options to get a fanless POE switch. If quiet operation is important, the best other one I've found is this 16 port switch, 8 port are POE and 80W total power output, unmanaged. As you can see, quite a different bundle of specs. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GECC11ONov 2019 update: Ubiquiti just started selling a 120W, 24 port POE switch (16 ports POE powered), fanless. It is a nice upgrade from the 16 port, 150W switch that I had bought. POE power isn’t as high but these days, equipment uses less and less power so 120W should be OK for many use cases. As I write this, it is only available for purchase from Ubiquit website, but maybe will show up on Amazon at some point.
