Philips Shaver Series 9000, Wet and Dry Electric Shaver
This is a very early review, however, having used Philips Shavers all my life I kind of know what to expect. This purchase was both an upgrade and renewal as my last Shaver was getting towards 20 years old. My first thoughts are that its nice to hold, fits the hands well, with no effort or paying much attention to the 'best shave' assisted shaving techniques it gave me a very close shave (something that I was missing with my 20 year old razor). I like the size of the head, it provides both good coverage and better chances of achieving that closer shave. It is really easy to clean, I watched all the videos on use and cleaning and I think this will be easier to keep clean than my earlier shaver version. I've yet to use the shaving training mechanism and App, but its all setup ready to go when I use the shaver next.I like Philips Shavers, they perform well and tend to last a long time with care and maintenance. This is looking better than all of the shavers before it, but that is what you would expect with technology improvements over time. I initially looked at the 8000 series as that was more the price bracket that I wanted to stick to, but looking at the comparisons, this one looked to be much better. I'm glad that I spent the extra money on the Series 9000 model. This came with a proper mains adapter and charging pod, this charges fully in no time at all which is impressive, and as part of the pack came with a cleaning pod and a box of 4 cleaning solutions. At the rate of deep cleaning once per month, I think there is enough here for about 8-12 months. Just the cleaning equipment and solutions cover most of the difference in price from the 8000 model to this particular set that I purchased.I would recommend this, the flexibility of use either wet or dry, the ease of cleaning, the closeness of the shave and the value of the entire pack is really good.

wow!
I have used Philips' shavers for over 40 years now and my skin is familiar with how they cut and how much they damage my skin. Yes all electric shavers damage your skin and somewhat more than a wet shave with a sharp traditional razor; basically a new blade. This wet and dry shaver is really good. Is it three times as good at providing a close shave as my venerable 3000 model which has been shaving me every other day for more than 8 years? No, but boy, does it provide a close shave. So why buy this model? Firstly because I can and perhaps more importantly, whilst it cost me £200, that cost included a cleaning system, improved cutting heads and as I probably needed to replace the heads on my 3000 model anyway, it made it even cheaper. Is £200 expensive? Not when it works out about a £1 a shave for the first year and then free thereafter except for a small amount of electricity.Depending on the time available to me I tend to have a traditional shave about every three days, particularly as with age, my beard growth is not as heavy and the hairs not so dense. on the other two days and depending on what I am doing, I tend to have a wet shave using a Philishave product. if I am short on time, or need a second shave, say in the evening, a dry shave from this shaver is excellent, even if it is my only shave of the day. Think of it as traditional shave/wet Philishave/dry Philishave as equating to "outstanding/excellent/very good"! I particularly like the reshaped heads which get to this difficult hairs around that line underneath your nostrils and the floating heads are pretty good at following the contour of my lower jaw.Out of the box you receive the shaver, a brush and cable, the cleaner and four cleaning pods. I wash my shaver a couple of times a week when I undertake a wet Philishave and once a week using the cleaner and pod. After dry shaves I open the head and simply blow the debris out of the window. As I say, my beard growth isn't as strong as it was and this cleaning regime suffices for my needs.I think that the groom pod app is a bit of a gimmick, but I am using it to determine how long I routinely shave for and to see if the technology helps me to improve my shave. I do find the usage tracker is good to ensure that I change over the cleaning pods every three months or so and particularly using the guided shave option - you can teach an old dog new tricks! I like the pressure sensor guides to ensure that I apply the correct pressure. My only frustration is that in the morning I feel that I am in AI meltdown with my shaver, toothbrush and bathroom scales all requiring my iPhone - how I still have my own teeth, am clean shaven and could look at a dial in the past defies belief. Providing I remember, then I record the data.A five star rating? Yes, a bit like your bed, if you use it a lot, don't buy cheap. My 3000 has been a great servant, it was quite cheap when I bought it, but to be honest, this shaver is better and a bit more. Well worth the cost.

Pricey, but a good shave and gadget
I'm 50 and hadn't used an electric shaver for years as I never quite liked the results. The reality is that nothing beats (and that includes this Philips shaver) a manual shave with a fresh blade and shaving gel, but this one is good enough. With some practice, I've managed to do a full shave in two minutes after 2-3 days without shaving. So, what I'm doing now is I use my standard razor for a clean-cut shave on Sundays that will last me the best part of 3 days. On day 3 or 4 I use the 9000 to keep me going, even though facial hair tends to grow a lot more quickly than when doing it manually. There's a bit of a learning curve in "getting the hang" of the oscillatory movements so the shaving heads will cover the contours of my face but the instructions and the app are helpful towards getting the best possible results. I haven't yet bought any new cleaning cartridges nor replaced the shaving heads but if the cost becomes onerous I will be using it a lot less. And I have to agree with some of the other reviewers in that the quality of the standard charging base is very poor (plasticky and fiddly), but the shaver itself is well-made, with good materials and pleasant to hold. The bluetooth functionality is indeed impressive and the gadget itself quite smart as it always "knows" when you've picked it up and has seamless connectivity with the app. And thus, with all the caveats mentioned above, I'd give it 4.5 but will do 5 as I'm more of a rounding up kind of person.
