Asterix and the Griffin
I got this book for my husbands birthday. We have been reading and collecting the Asterix books for years. A good book.

This is the latest different Asterix Humour comic book!
That Asterix and The Griffin comic book was quite ok with the different writer's perspective with his own dry British humour. Yes, there are several wonderfully-humour cartoon strips which Obelix, his dog, Dogamix, and Asterix behaved with craziness and wits, but I like the original deceased? writer's humour that is not matched with the present writer's. Yes, there is still British humour, but it is still different. However, I am the biggest Asterix comic book reader for over five decades! Cheers!

Asterix is wonderful as ever.
I have been reading Asterix since I was a kid. I have most of them in Dutch, and just started buying the English language versions so my kids can enjoys them, too (and reading the translations will be fun). That said, one of the main reasons for my review is the remark I have been reading about the name change for the Druid. Panoramix is the original (French) name. I have only ever known him as such and while I am sure I would have gotten used to Getafix, I am glad that his name is back to its origin. And now Idefix (the dog) ;-)

Great Art, Poor Translation (wrong names!) and Wrong Size! Come on!
Griffin has some pretty stunning art, though the new artist still has not been able to convey surprise, anger, being stunned and being thick quite with the humour of old. However, this lovely art is spoiled by the smaller format of the publication. What happened to the regular sized book? This will not fit with your collection. Poor choice, publisher! Next, get a new translator who understands the series. Honestly, changing names? What happened to Getafix? Why rename the Roman camps? Etc, etc. Sorry, but this series is not going to pick up many new readers, so you need to satisfy your long term fans and that means sticking to the world we know. The story is not bad, but the translator just does not have the sense of humour of Bell & Hockridge, who added much. If you are an old time fan like me maybe head over to Amazon.co.uk and see if the British edition is any better. I will.

why on earth would they make this one a different size?
TEN stars for the art...i first disovered asterix in about '81, i was spending the night at a friends house. the friend and his family were english, so he had a stack of comics i'd never seen. i was instantly in love with the gorgeous art, it was many years before i could find some to buy for myself!asterix comics are among some of the most gorgeously drawn comics of all time, my first favorite artist is walt kelly (pogo) and uderzo comes a close second.the new artist, didier conrad absolutely NAILS the look of what i consider to be the sweet spot in uderzo's career, it's common for artists to start off with decent ability then hit their stride years later, and then in their waning years have their art get a touch bland. didier is obviously a fan of the middle period of asterix comics, and he's perfect for the job. the writing on these new editions has been decent, i don't think this one is the strongest in terms of the story, but it's still an enjoyable readBUT. why make it a new size?! i own tons of european comics, they're all very close to being the same size and shape, and this one is perhaps 20 percent smaller, the gorgeous art should be presented as big as possible! if the new publisher wanted to make a splash with their new publication, they could have gone bigger and there'd be less unhappy customers! it would still be odd to have one a different size than the others but still...i expect it was a cost cutting thing, 20% less paper, less ink... adds up, resulting in more profit potential. bad move!

Weak story, and great illustrations that are lost because of the shrunken book size.
The illustrations and the coloring are absolutely breathtaking, but that's about the best part of it. First off I hate that PaperKutz has reduced the size of the book. The panels, words and details are so small that's it's frustrating to look at.I feel like the story is so small and meaningless compared to the adventures they used to have with the original creators. This has been the case for the past few new books that have come out under the new writer. I can't tell if he just doesn't have the imagination or if they realize that they don't have to come up with good stories because the fan base will buy it no matter what.

O melhor do século 21
O melhor álbum do Asterix do século 21. A história é bem amarrada, com piadas ótimas sobre a atualidade, e a arte está simplesmente linda. Precisa ser lançado em português brasileiro urgentemente!

The new, smaller format is horrible.
Good comic, by the new authors, that finally captures the spirit and style of the originals. However, the new, smaller format is awful. It's just too small to read comfortably.

Enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed reading it after so many years. The writing is a bit different but that was to be expected with the new writing team. It was still a lot of fun. I read it in just 2 sittings. My son also enjoyed reading it.
