I bought a 2004 Volvo. After a couple of trouble-free weeks, it completely freaked out. The dashboard became a Christmas Tree. The engine immediately died after starting. Dire warnings from the Old School computer display.Thank God for the Internet in my pocket."Remove fuse 23. Remove fuse 33..." I followed the instructions and got the car running again. But I couldn't read the codes the computer called out. My ODB-II reader told me nothing.There are many different computer systems on a Volvo. A standard OBD-II reader knows nothing of these proprietary, VOLVO-ONLY codes. You have to use a code reader that "speaks Volvo."This one does.You can read all of the codes from all of the computers ... determine if there is a serious problem ... reset each computer ... clear the Check Engine light ... and save yourself a ton of money by avoiding the dealership for minor issues.A month ago I was driving in very heavy Washington DC traffic. Suddenly, the entire Interstate shut down. Hard braking across all five lanes. As I began to resume speed, the Volvo began bucking. It was as if the ABS system would suddenly activate. For a half-second, the brakes would come on hard. What the ?!I crossed over to the shoulder and found a place to stop ... pulled out this code reader ... went through all the steps ... consulted SwedeSpeed and other websites ... and got the matter sorted out. (Maybe this post is a caution on buying older Volvos, but I have to say it's a wonderful machine when it is running well. (2004 XC70 5-cyl turbo). So comfortable with great handling.) I don't know how widespread these computer issues are. In the eight months I've had the car, I've experienced two tantrums.This reader bailed me out both times. I don't think you can own a Volvo without one. It's saved me two tows and God only knows how many trips to the dealer (at $250 per).If you have an older Volvo and you have been thinking about getting one of these, take that as wisdom. Invest the money. Learn how to use the device. Learn the quirks of your car. You'll end up with a safer vehicle, being safer on the road, and feeling good about caring for your machine.

I had an airbag code and a few other random check engine codes. This cleared the airbag code, and it hasn't returned so I think I had just jiggled the wires under the seat by mistake when vacuuming. So much better to spend $85 here than hundreds at the dealer! I have also been able to clear engine codes and it has been helpful in diagnosing what is going on with my high mileage volvo. I highly recommend it and am thinking of buying one for all of our family's cars.

I used this to clear the SRS warning on my '04 Volvo XC-70. It clears all the VIDA codes at once. I was having communication errors from a bad CEM connection over about a year. This scanner cleared the warning and all the codes stored. Turned off the airbag warning as I expected. What I did not expect was how much better the car transmission shifted and the all wheel drive worked better too, which was a nice surprise. While this is no substitute for a VIDA-DICE program, it was way less expensive and got the job done.

Happy so far. It came quick and worked right away. I plugged it in and it told me why my ABS light came on. It gave the error codes and descriptions. It also turned off my service light. Yay! Thank You Lord Jesus. I suggest this for people w Audi’s! Waaaay cheaper than going to a shop for a diagnosis. I hadn’t been sure which scanner to get or if it was worth it but it totally was.

Order unit for my son Volvo vechicle. Never worked from the beginning. Plugged it to the obd2 port, never booted. I just got a blank screen at first, then a blue screen. Tried it on my 3 other vechicles and same story. I ended up returning it. Replacement would take almost 7 days. After further inspection, notice item looked like it was used and returned. Waste of my time when I am sent a non working OBDII. Please check your products before shipping to customers.

This thing is amazing!!! It would take like a $500 reader to match what this thing can do!! It's not just an OB2 reader. It has that capability in it, but its so much more!!! Basically it has to menus, OB2 or Volvo modules. If you go into volvo modules menu, it can read information from literally every single computer in your car! Like everything that's going on. Mine even detected that my door actuator was faulty, it literally even went into the computer that monitors door locks. And you can reset every code!I have a 2004 S80 t6, which has a crazy computer system, which was one of the worst volvo has ever made. Nothing but constant problems with communication error and parasitic battery drains, and overheating computer modules. It is the worst. My car sat un-driven for 4 years because of this, even the dealer gave up on it. With research I've gotten it up and running again. I'm still working out some kinks but its running. But honnestly I've never felt comfortable driving it, until I bought this and kept it in my glove compartment! I can park and reset the faulty errors in the computer modules while the engine is still running. It gives me such peace of mind. Also lets me actually see if the errors are non-sense like intermittent communication errors, or serious ones that require immediate service. I honnestly do not know how anyone would own a volvo without one of these!If you have spent the money to get and maintain a Volvo, then spend the money to buy one of these. Trust me it will save you much more money in the long run! It will also help prevent you from being ripped off by mechanics! When it comes to volvo, a lot of mechanics love to change part unnecessarily or just plain lie to you about what's wrong. With this you can read the codes, do a google search of the volvo forums, and find out really what is wrong with your car before stepping foot in a repair shop!It's a must buy!!!

No frills scanner but enough details to diagnose all Volvo sensors excellent job. We had to return 2 of the pricier handhelds (different manufacturer) that would not work; even though "made to fit" said they would.
