With Taj Mahal on vocals, harmonica, guitar, and piano and Cooder on vocals, guitar, mandolin, and banjo - joined by Joachim Cooder on drums and bass - the duo recorded eleven songs drawn from recordings and live performances by Terry and McGhee, who they both first heard as teenagers in California.

Essential to understand Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal
A great little record. It won't blow your socks off but it is a good listen. It is also worth reading the influence the original Get On Board had on the formative years of young Ry and Taj. In fact, after listening to this I immediately went and bought that record, which is also available on CD. The arrangements are folksy and simple - so if you are hoping for Ry's signature excellent and complex slide and picking, this ain't it.But the record has a lot of charm, after listening to it a couple of times you will have earworms that mean that you'll regularly check it out again in the future. Recommended for all Ry fans but new listeners may want to start elsewhere in his and Taj Mahal's extensive catalogue.

Music without age.
Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder produce the music which is timeless and impeccable. Two of the finest practitioners in the genre.

Classic Cooder / Taj Mahal
A great collection of songs from the Sonny Terry / Brownie McGee partnership as performed by Ry Cooder and Taj Mahal with percussion from Ry Cooders son Joachim. Good down home feeling / vibe on all the songs on classics such as "The Midnight Special, Pick a Bale of Cotton, I Shall Not Be Moved", all three musicians are having a ball, not trying to copy the original recordings but paying due thanks in their own way, great playing throughout.

Love this album
Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder. A real tribute to Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee. Terry and McGhee were brought over to Britain in the late 50s by Chris Barber. They were among the earliest of Blues tourists and made records for Nixa. Loved them then and love this album now. Even if you've never heard of them, if you like Taj or Ry you'll enjoy this immensely.

Fantastic!
Bought this album for my dad mainly. It's so good! Taj And Ry on top form and doing some of the best blues songs there are. Day it arrived we listemed to it three times! It's my go too album at the moment on short walks too. Any fan of taj or Ry or sonny terry and Brownie mcgee or music in general will enjoy this. No complaints at all!
