All the times we've used it, which is at least 25 on our german shepherd (he's treated with tick medication, but they still break through), and for all size deer ticks, the entire head is extracted, and easily. No need to yank, just pull straight back toward the rear of the tick (like you're plucking a hair the correct way). It's amazing.

The Tick Key has worked multiple times for me on teeny tiny deer ticks. You have to use it properly and put the head of the tick at the small opening of the Tick Key, press down into the skin and pull gently until the tick releases. The ticks were the size of a pin head or smaller, came out head and all. Love that it fits in my wallet too.
