Add great dynamic sounds. Was dubious about quality, but actually are ‘built’ really well!
PROS• Very robust• Easy to adjust how ‘hard’ they are (with the tone ring – the black ‘rubber band’)CONS• Adjusting the tone ring (‘rubber band’) can be a little stiff, but it does mean it stays onThey are made from smaller nylon rods that are secured strongly together in the handle, which is covered in black heat-shrink material. The material provides sufficient grip for sweaty hands, but have enough smoothness to not ‘catch’ or be uncomfortable. They enable a more dynamic expression than wooden sticks, and have more oomph than heavier brushes. They do feel a tad thicker than sticks. The ‘tone ring’ (a wide piece of black rubber) can be ‘slid’ up and down the smaller nylon rods. The nearer the tone ring is to the end (‘tip’), the harder hitting and louder sound you’ll get. With the ‘tone ring’ right down by the handle, these can be played a little like brushes. The smaller nylon rods seem a little softer than plastic brushes, so don’t quite produce that ‘cleaner’ tshh sound when used as such. The rods are also individually thicker than the more delicate plastic brush ‘fibres’.The ‘tone rings’ are a very snug fit and, unlike for others, neither have budged, despite some long frenetic sessions! They are almost too snug, as adjusting them is not particularly easy. You’d expect then to slide, but invariably they end up rolling over themselves, a little like un-rolling, eh hem, you know! Neither have split. These are a firm additional to the stick bag!If you find this review useful, please consider clicking on ‘YES’ below, thanks.

Every drummer should have these
I bought these to replace a pair of Pro Mark C-RODS Cool Rods Birch Dowel Drumsticks. Although a great product, the wooden rods started to break off. I found these Flix sticks which are made out of plastic & thought I'd give them a go.I'm pleased I did because they are great and seem to be hard wearing. They are a bit heavier than the wooden rods, but well balanced. They add additional sounds to the drum kit and I would recommend every drummer should have a set of these.

Great sticks if you're after less noise
These sticks are basically like hotrods, but I reckon slightly quieter, and the plastic strands don't splinter and break off as often as the wooden hotrod strands do. They do produce a more acoustic 'slap' sound, which I like, but really I'm using them for volume reduction. These sticks are making it possible for me to practice while other people are around during the day at times that I can't with ordinary sticks - so for that they're great. They seem hard wearing and well built, don't look like they'll be breaking any time soon so thats a definite plus! They don't have the same response as a normal wooden drumstick, don't bounce as much, they're slightly heavier than my usual Vater 5A's so they can feel like they drag a bit, you need to put more effort in to play the same stuff you'd play with a normal drumstick, but that's no bad thing - just means you have to work a bit harder! The price was great value for money and they arrived promptly. Packaging was a bit OTT though! In summary I would recommend these sticks to someone who want something a bit quieter for practicing when there are people around or you don't want to make too much noise, and also to someone who want's something a bit different for doing an acoustic performance - with a slightly more acoustic sound.(and just in case you're wondering, these are not as quiet as brushes - if you need to be super quiet then use brushes!)

Lighter drum sound
Used these in a 4 piece covers /original band for that unplugged quieter sound it a garden.. I like them.. Thicker than a stick but works well. I pulled the band all the way back

I thwacked all night.
Really good. Well made, feel great in the hand. Thwack to your hearts content. Watch the shock on the guitarists face as he tries to turn his amp down. Admire the confusion in the bass players face, for no reason, except they're a bass player... ;-)
