Auto Upkeep: Maintenance, Light Repair, Auto Ownership, and How Cars Work Hardcover – November 14, 2017

The Idiot’s Guide and this book are the two best I’ve found on basic practical auto maintenance. I used it as I developed a short course for young drivers and haven’t found anything I don’t like. Modern safety technologies could be more extensive, but those likely require dealership maintenance anyway.

This curriculum drips quality. I bought a curriculum pack. With it came everything you would need to teach a year or half a year class. Bought it for my daughter (I homeschool) and we have already learned so much. It is deep and practical. Diagrams and pictures are clear and great. Content is great for an overview but can quickly lead to depth if desired. The activities have been wonderfully practical-things I wished I'd learned in high school. This curriculum does not disappoint. The organization is very user friendly- I planned in about 1 hour due to their work. This business is also amazing to work with: I had one issue with binding and they were VERY quick to correct the issue...and I hadn't even asked them to, knowing times are hard. Quality text, curriculum, and business!! Highly recommend.

Basic information

This Auto Upkeep book with the supporting materials is an outstanding program for anyone wishing to learn how to maintain their vehicle. If you are trying to learn on your own, or teach someone else, then this is the program for you. It comes with a workbook that coordinates well with the textbook and Michael Gray provides you with a USB drive with syllabus, tests, and many online links to supporting videos, etc. It is described as an introductory course, but I believe you would have enough information and experience after completing this course to enter a technical auto program. This is a perfect program for a homeschool family because of the basic yet comprehensive style of presenting the information backed up with appropriate activities on their vehicle. This could be used by anyone. And the author is available promptly with support and assistance if needed. The customer service is amazing.

I have helped write textbooks and reviewed them over my 18 years as an automotive instructor. This book has helped in the class with basic theory and research. It's difficult to know what will help entry level students get "comfortable" with high-skilled content but the book and resources ease the transition. I can provide task sheets, questions and research to occupy those with different learning styles and needs. I've created most of the lists and tasks from the ASE alliance tasks and used those and the ones available here to accomplish accreditation and use for an end of pathway assessment review. the fact that the books are basic is great for those wanting to check family vehicles and obtain knowledge. The program is a good basic automotive maintenance and light repair curriculum for entry level training. The publishers generously allowed us access during the school shutdowns to use for online training of our students. The program was especially valuable for first year basic fundamentals instruction. We also used portions as introductions to more intense study.
