No, it's an instant read thermometer, not intended for cooking to a temperature. I use my pit thermometers for temperature cooking and check for accuracy and temps throughout with this thermometer.

I use a digital thermometer almost every day as a professional cook. The major difference I find in this one is in the response time. The Master Cook thermometer is MUCH slower in registering the final temperature - almost three times as slow as ones such as the Cooper-Atkins DPP400W-0-8. (I am not endorsing Cooper-Atkins. I am just pointing out from my experience the difference in the two thermometers I have personally used.) While for many folks that may not be a big deal, for me it is when I have to work quickly or may be holding my hand over a hot pot and range. Over all the Master Cook thermometer works just fine for the money and has the same functional features. However, if your looking for quick response time you may want to consider another option.
