Ever spend eight hours in a "Productivity Bin" Ever had worries about layoffs Ever had the urge to demolish a temperamental printer or fax machine Ever had to endure a smarmy, condescending boss Then Office Space should hit pretty close to home for you. Peter (Ron Livingston) spends the day doing stupefyingly dull computer work in a cubicle. He goes home to an apartment sparsely furnished by IKEA and Target, then starts for a maddening commute to work again in the morning. His coworkers in the cube farm are an annoying lot, his boss is a snide, patronizing jerk, and his days are consumed with tedium. In desperation, he turns to career hypnotherapy, but when his hypno-induced relaxation takes hold, there's no shutting it off. Layoffs are in the air at his corporation, and with two coworkers (both of whom are slated for the chute) he devises a scheme to skim funds from company accounts. The scheme soon snowballs, however, throwing the three into a panic until the unexpected happens and saves the day. Director Mike Judge has come up with a spot-on look at work in corporate America circa 1999. With well-drawn characters and situations instantly familiar to the white-collar milieu, he captures the joylessness of many a cube denizen's work life to a T. Jennifer Aniston plays Peter's love interest, a waitress at Chotchkie's, a generic beer-and-burger joint la Chili's, and Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show) has a minor but hilarious turn as Peter's mustached, long-haired, drywall-installin' neighbor. --Jerry Renshaw --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

There is only one thing wrong with this DVD release...
...and that problem is that we never get any really good Special Edition box sets here in Region 2. So, Fox, let's have a Special Edition of "Office Space" for Region 2, like you did in the States, and throw in the "Milton" shorts mentioned in the opening credits!Aside from that, it's brilliantly written, superbly acted, beautifully filmed, exactingly designed and produced, wonderfully scored, endlessly quotable, and works on many levels at once. It functions best as an outright satire of Work. Whether you toil in the service industry, like Jennifer Aniston's character, Joanna, or in a cubicle like the majority of the rest of the characters, or in management, or consultancy, this is a must-see film. It has something for everyone who has ever held a job. However, I also believe this film should also be used as a mandatory corporate training video in every company on Earth. With everything you do, you should ask yourself: "Am I acting, speaking, or thinking like any of the characters in this film?" And if your answer to that question is "yes," it's time to re-evaluate your life, your job, and your company's policies. The power of this film is such: The character Milton Waddams owns a red Swingline stapler, which becomes a central feature of the movie. The story goes that the Swingline company started getting phone calls, letters, and e-mails wanting to place orders for red staplers . . . which they didn't actually make. The prop department on "Office Space" had simply painted one of their ordinary staplers red to make it stand out more in the film. As the film gained cult status, requests for red staplers increased to the point where Swingline caved in and now produces a bright red stapler. And said Rio Red Swingline stapler is also available here on Amazon, in the Stationery & Office Supplies section. This film changed the American office supplies market. That's how good it is.One thing that's been glazed over in the reviews: this film was originally released in the late 1990s, which means it came out many years before "The Office" (both the British Original and American Remake versions). And as far as I'm concerned, it's also much, much funnier than either of them. In principle, this film just shouldn't work. A movie about software engineers in which not much actually happens? Boring. A white-collar comedy with a gangsta rap soundtrack? Insane. The major antagonist (Lumbergh) being one of the most tedious, bland, lifeless drones ever to grace a screen, and the fact that the anti-hero everyone ends up cheering for, Milton, is even MORE dull, socially maladjusted, and petty? It just can't work. But it DOES, and so amazingly well, I'm surprised that this film isn't in every home on the planet yet. Everyone who has watched it with me began laughing before the opening credits were finished, and kept right on laughing through the end credits. I recommend this film without hesitation or reserve.

Fabulously funny!
One of my favourite films! I worked in an office in the 1990s and recognised many of the characters. I love this film.

A must watch for every office drone and disgruntled worker on the planet
I've been a fan of this film for several years now after having seen a review for it in the newspaper. The plot can sometimes veer off the excellent initial set course, but it doesn't detract from how well acted and directed a film this is. We have a believably functioning office run by believable people (and yes that does include Milton - everyone knows a Milton). I enjoy comedy of the Naked Gun and Hot Shots variety, but this film can easily fall somewhere in the middle of serious comedy and slapstick comedy. This is more cerebral comedy than a lot of films of the Epic Movie ilk. It has always amazed me just how few people know this film. Out of my office and section in work I know of 3 people out of 60 who have seen this film (and enjoyed it!). If you like your comedy irreverent and inoffensive, this film is for you.

"Take This Jay Oh Bee"
Ron Livingston is Peter Gibbons: a young IT professional working in a cubical for a tech firm. He's a quiet guy who just has his set of friends, Michael and Samir, who are both programmers in this banking software manufacturer. From the word go, we see how mundane his job is, from the annoying lady next door saying the same phrase over and over again on the telephone, to Lumbergh having a go at him for not doing his TPS reports correctly, and we soon find Milton annoying him too - it would make anyone flip! When he goes to a hypnotherapist - he finds his nirvana - and decides to take control of his life. When he finds himself in typical office bureaucracy, he decides enough is enough and takes drastic revenge tactics, with an interesting outcome.I really enjoyed Office Space, Ron Livingston is great, and his supporting cast is superb, even Milton can crack you up, and there's even a cameo from John C McGinley - Scrubs' Doctor Cox. The whole satire of the movie just works, it's funny even though it's got little direction. Mike Judge - creator of King Of The Hill and Beavis and Butthead has made a classic comedy without probably realising it.The DVD doesn't have any extras, so I'd suggest waiting for the blu-ray release, which is already in the US, so it shouldn't be too long before we're treated to it too.Worth every penny, buy this, you'll come back to it, I know I have, and I pre-ordered it back in 2003.

Gets better every time
One of the greatest comedies. Best watched with friends, it will have you in stitches. It hasn't dated very well but I think this is intentional, and kind of adds to the charm. A great snapshot of 90s corporate America. There's a lot of in-jokes for office workers but having never worked in an office I still find it hilarious. The main character, Peter is just great. A comedy masterpiece.Great for drinking games, which I will not go into

Brilliant movie and a laugh a minute!
Brilliant movie. If you're feeling down, watch this. From the minute it starts you'll cheer up as there are plenty of laughs. Technology has certainly moved on since this movie was released but you may recognise the way some offices operate and how changing your attitude to work will get you a promotion without even trying ... and just for being honest! A great movie - get the popcorn ready!!

Slightly offbeat, but funny
A quirky little film, which shows something of the dull reality of modern working life, but with some good humour. It has provided myself with two enjoyable evenings of entertainment so far (although with a different group of friends on each occasion). Don't expect a run of the mill Hollywood comedy though. I recommend it.
