Quilts and large items like bedspreads are not the easiest stain-removal projects, but this is only because they are bulky and can be heavy when wet. Heat is essential to activate the product, but time is needed because the product is gentle. Plan to soak at least overnight.
1. Get a plastic bin (with a lid) that will hold the quilt, and place it in the bathtub or shower. Do NOT put the quilt in it yet. Mark the outside of the tub at about 1/3 of the depth, or whatever depth you think will be enough to submerge the quilt. Measure exactly how much water it will take to reach that depth. You will not be using this cold water to soak, so pour it out or use it to water your plants!
2. Heat about a gallon of water until it is boiling. Turn off the heat and dissolve enough powder in it for the whole amount of water, including whatever the bin would hold (enough to cover the quilt). It takes two tablespoons of the powder for every gallon of water. For example, if your bin holds five gallons and the pot holds one, then put in enough Mama's Miracle Linen Soak for six gallons …or a total of 12 tablespoons.
3. Immediately fill the bin to the line with the hottest possible water from the tub faucet, then MIX that water with the hot solution from the stove (Be very careful if you have to carry the hot pot, checking for obstacles in the path before you do it). Stir to blend.
4. Put the quilt in the  of hot solution, stirring with a long-handled spoon to make sure the quilt is saturated. Keep the quilt submerged by placing a heavy china plate on top because as the stains are lifted, air bubbles will form beneath the fabric. Put the lid on the bin and cover it with a couple of thick towels to keep the heat in as long as possible. Then soak, at least overnight. Add more boiling water/product solution to whatever is already in the bin if more  is needed to completely cover the quilt.

Now for a few more tips:
If your quilt needs any repairs, it’s best to make them BEFORE removing the stains. You don’t want any of the batting to come out when it gets wet. 
     Old quilts have probably been washed many times. If you are the slightest bit concerned that it might fade more, though, you might want to cool the solution slightly (after dissolving the powder) before putting the quilt into it.
     If there are some especially bad stains on the quilt, mark them with a steel safety pin. Then when you are wondering if the process is complete, all you need to do is find one of the pins and look at the area around it. If the stain is gone, the quilt has soaked long enough. If there’s still a little stain left around the pin, soak longer. 
     When you are through soaking, just tip the container onto its side and let the solution run down the drain. Then rinse the quilt by filling the container with clean water from the faucet. It usually takes about three changes of water to rinse thick quilts—you’ll be able to tell if it needs another rinse.
     Press out as much water as you can, but don’t wring out the quilt by hand because it can break delicate stitches. Professional quilt conservators often recommend using the spin cycle of the washing machine rather than twisting quilts by hand to remove the water. If you press out as much water as possible, you can also roll the quilt in towels to blot some of the water. 
     It’s usually better to dry the quilt flat than to hang it up, again because the weight of the wet quilt can actually pull stitches loose. To dry it flat, spread a plastic painters drop cloth on a bed, the floor, or the grass; then place the quilt flat on the plastic. Setting a fan nearby will help it dry even more quickly.  Be sure not to fold it or store it until you are certain that it’s completely dry.
