The film - which is set in the 80’s - follows three sixteen-year-old friends who spend their Saturdays sneaking into movies at the local multiplex.

Kevin smith the early years.
I had my own issues with clerks 3 but it had more to do with my state of mind at that time than the movie itself. That aside, today I saw Kevin Smith’s best movie. An R rated coming of age comedy loosely based on a day of Kevin’s life theater hopping with his friends from high school. There are shades of who Kevin would become and hints to his future success in film. The quote that stands out in this movie is one that brings my own personal feelings of kinship with Kevin even more fully into perspective. “Most people go to movies to escape their lives, people like you and me use movies to make life make sense.” Kevin as a fan since I was 16 years old you have made me a believer again. After killing off a gen X icon in clerks 3 you have come back even stronger. And made me a fan all over again. This movie is a gift to all of us who know the real world inspiration behind these characters and boy is that mid credits scene a beautiful moment.

A Great Story from Kevin Smith!
Kevin Smith’s 2024 film, “The 4:30 Movie,” loosely adapts his own life experiences of sneaking into movie theaters while a teenager for his sixteenth feature film. The story focuses on mvie-obsessed Brian David (Austin Zajur), an avatar for Smith, who calls his crush Melody Barnegat (Siena Agudong) to ask her out on a date. He’s had a crush on her for over a year, but lacked the confidence to ask her out until recently. He and his friends Burny (Nicholas Cirillo) and Belly (Reed Northrup) plan to go to the movie to see “Astro Blaster & The Beaver Men” – a parody of “Flash Gordon” – as cover for their plans to sneak into an R-rated movie. The story focuses on their theatre-hopping, discussions of films and their social lives, and the obstacles in the way of their juvenile goals. The story is a coming-of-age film in the vein of John Hughes’ work and provides an opportunity for Smith to showcase his heart, which crops up in most of his work but is on full display here. As a Kevin Smith film, it features cameos from some of his regular actors including Justin Long, Jason Lee, Kate Micucci, Diedrich Bader, Harley Quinn Smith, Jennifer Schwalbach Smith, Jason Mewes, Jason Biggs, Jeff Anderson, Brian O’Halloran, and Rosario Dawson. This steelbook edition is designed to look like a VHS tape in keeping with the film’s 1986 setting. Bonus features includes audio commentary from Smith as well as a making-of featurette in which the actors discuss Smith’s collaborative filmmaking process while Smith explores the experience of making a semi-autobiographical film based on such a significant memory from his youth. This is a great addition to fans of Kevin Smith’s oeuvre and a lovely story for older teens as well as those who remember being that age and all it entails.

Kevin Smith film
Kevin smith movie, if you like his previous movies, this is also a winner IMO. I enjoyed this one, a bit more uplifting from his last movie Clerks 3(a proper ending storyline from clerks 1 & 2). And different characters, not a bad thing. 😀I missed it in theaters, and was quick to order this when I could. Glad I have it in my collection now.

Kevin Smith is Back!
Just glad to see that there's a brand new Kevin Smith movie out there. And this one here is definitely something special for anybody who ever hung out at the movie theaters all day long back in the day. That used to be my life every single weekend. It's a cool little autobiography styled flick of a young Kevin Smith in 1986, hanging out with his buddies, talking all kinds of good movie times, and going on a very special date with a very special gal. Gives both a retro Kevin Smith movie vibe yet still offering something fresh and new. Really digging into that John Hughes extra classic '80s style. If you've always dug Kevin Smith movies this one is definitely a special one to check out.The Blu-ray also has a behind the scenes featurette and the classic Kevin Smith audio commentary that plays out like a Smodcast podcast.

NO HDR OR DOLBY VISION
The movie is great, however the 4K disc (which advertises Dolby Vision/HDR) does not have Dolby Vision or HDR. I have contacted Lionsgate about this and they said they will not be replacing the discs and instead will send me a copy of Clerks 3…which I already own. Amazon said they would do a return but I like the steelbook packaging so I got a partial refund. Love the movie and love Kevin Smith so I hate to rate it even 3 stars, but the handling of this issue was ridiculous on Lionsgate’s part.
