Q: Are the back corners using zippers?

Yes, the back corners are zippers, the cover is strong and durable.

Q: Is there a side opening for trigger release?

No. The cover is completely over the trap as shown in the picture. Sometimes it does get in the way when trying to set the trap. Generally, I don't have any real headaches with it. Just a side note... My one complaint are the anchors in the back/front tend to get chewed on by the animal. Which I then have to use a zip tie to hold the corner in place. If you use it for cats, you should be fine. If you use it for other wildlife, expect the covers to get chewed/clawed by the animals.

Q: For the traps that have a no-see through door, how can you tell that you have successfully trapped an animal?

You cant. You can only tell if the trap door is down or still open. If down you have to approach it and gently lift the cover to see what type of animal you trapped. Easy and safe to do.
