Works like it should and with circuit breaker so it should last a long time vs those that don’t.
Good directions, sturdy unit, and i like the circuit breaker. My last reel had to be pitched as it didn’t have one - this should last a great long time. No issues, easy to install.

Nice to have it hanging and always available
It's worked well for several years. No issues. I trip the surge every once in awhile if I do a table saw and vac on same line but I'm sure I'm maxing the intended purpose--so I usually run one on another switch. Nice to have it hanging and always available. Sturdy and good.

Loved this, but no longer stays extended
Loved the product - just what I needed. Solidly built, 3 outlets, thick cord, 30ft is awesome. Been loving this since I purchased it on January 27, 2018.However, this evening (December 17, 2018) I pulled it down and it didn't make the ratcheting click-click noise, and it will no longer lock and stay extended - the reel wants to suck it back in no matter what I do (other than put something heavy on the cord that can resist the reel). For the $70 cost of this unit, I expected years of use, not 11 months.I have the unit in my garage, so it's not like it is used in any excessively heavy way - I've probably pulled it out and retracted it no more than 50 times since its been installed.I'll try to see if Alert Stamping will get back to me with any suggestions, and will update if anything changes.Update: Put a request describing the issue on the Alert Stamping site and got an e-mail back the next day from Dave:----If no pieces came out of the reel then the locking mechanism may be stuck. You need to remove the center screw on the side of the case that doesn’t have the fixed cord exiting. Under the case half you will see the lock. It consists of a stationary ratchet and a spring loaded pawl.If one of the pieces are broken we will have to find a solution for you.----So I took it apart and that must have unstuck the locking mechanism because it looked fine and worked again as expected after I put it back together. As an added bonus, I must have reduced the preload on the spring because at the end of the retracting it is now going somewhat slowly rather than a maniacal whip with a weight on the end look to do harm. It took a bit of time to get it apart and back together, but just happy to have it working again. Revised rating from 1 to 4 due to a relatively easy fix and good customer service from Alert Stamping. -1/2 star (rounded down) for the pain of having to disassembly and reassemble it.

Pleased
Had one before, left in garage when I moved. A good product reason for purchasing another

Indespensible tool
This retractable extension is an indispensable tool in my garage / shop.Power at your fingertips whenever and wherever you need it without the hassle of having to wrap up a cord. Ratcheting action is positive, and the cord recoil is crisp. All and all a great product.

Great training for rope pulling competitions.
The reel is so stiff that I'd rather use a regular extension cord and unwind and wrap it by hand. It actually takes less time.Felt as if I should be using two hands to pull out the cord. As noted above, it's great training for someone who wants to sign up for rope pulling competitions. Also, the noise is disturbing. Sounds like the springs are going to burst at any moment.Ever hopeful, I tried to convince myself that it might loosen up in time, and proceeded with mounting the bracket. When one of the supplied screw heads snapped off while being screwed into wood, I accepted the writing on the wall, and packed the product up for return.

Doing the job
Haven't used much yet, but so far it works pretty well. It seems to be of decent quality and the retract mechanism works good. I have it suspended from a beam in a metal building to connect to an onboard battery charger in my boat. It retracts out of the way when not in use and is right there to pull down to hook up the charger when I come in from fishing. Just what I was looking for.UPDATE: 5/13/16 Having problem with the latch. Reel has lifetime warranty with box saying to return to where you purchased. Amazon doesn't provide a way to return to them that far back. Sent a email to Alert Stamping and no response. Changed my review to a 1 star. Will not buy anything from either again.

Seller had to replace unit after 2 months of use.
After 2 months of minimal use, the mechanism that retracts the cord stopped working. We contacted the seller and we shipped the product back for a replacement. I'd give a better rating if the seller would have covered the $17.00 to ship to them since it was under warranty. I'm also cautiously optimistic that the mechanism won't fail again.
