Nice alternative to the Gracie books
I had two Gracie Jiu-Jitsu books, but there was always one thing that bothered me about their philosophy and approach, they always make it seem as if all you need is really good technique and nothing else matters, and I just can't agree with their idea that weight training and muscle power aren't really that important? I think having a strong body is equally important to good technique so I thought maybe Ken Shamrock's book would incorporate that more (obviously by looking at his body that must be part of his training) Sure enough this book gave me what I was looking for, some insight into how a power wrestler/fighter goes about things. If you are sick of the wimpy Gracie way then this gives you some good perspective on the power game.

Interesting book about Ken Shamrock
I love biographies. This was a fairly decently written biography about Ken Shamrock. Easy read, easy to finish in a week but informative and entertaining.

Interesting biography
This book gives the biography of Ken Shamrock. And although I am not a big UFC fan I respect the warriors who engage in the sport of cage fighting. Shamrock is a tough guy but he doesn't come across as a bully and I found the history of his life interesting.

a curiosity
it is interesting to read the techniques that Ken teaches in this book, because a lot of them would be considered 'bad' by today's standards. for example, he teaches a mount escape whereby you try to throw your legs up and in front of your opponent. i've never seen that work either in the gym or in ufc. maybe it was effective back in the 90s.he also describes a gym in which people where choked unconscious as part of a kind of initiation, where there was no science behind any of the conditioning training -- it was just to make you "calloused" -- and where reckless meat head bravado ruled. almost worth the read to see how far the sport has come in such a short time.otherwise, lots of colorful old school characters, including from japanese pro wrestling, and sad tales from his early life of deprivation and suffering. learn how he got the name 'shamrock'. another one for the collection, but not a must have.

Great book.
This book is brutal and braggidocio, both author and book. Another honest read. I enjoyed finding the softer side to one of MMA's toughest fighters.

Other than that like the read on how he became a fighter
Would of gave it a five but didn't because of the instructional part could of been a separate book. Other than that like the read on how he became a fighter.
