THE WOOD IS ROUGH. I KNEW THAT FROM OTHER REVIEWS.I SANDED WITH 80,100 AND 150 GRIT. THEN I FILLED IN A SMALL SPLIT ON THE OUTSIDE WITH GLUE AND SANDING RESIDUE. WHEN THAT DRIED I SANDED IT LIGHTLY.THEN I OILED IT 3X WITH FOOD GRADE MINERAL OIL.I NOW HAVE A MIGHTY NICE LOOKING AND STURDY MORTAR AND PESTLE FOR $20.!!I'm happy!

Love how big it is! It’s also deep so when your crushing garlic or any other spice, it stays in the mortar. Great price and quality.

Started to use it after a quick wash on the very first day, after 5-10 minutes where I left to dry the product, this is what happened.
