Replacement of old Briggs and Stratton 2hp model 60102.
I have an older Briggs and Stratton 2hp engine ( Model 60102 ) that had no spark. I bought this Magneto armature to replace the old one and to also finally get rid of the points and condenser that were still on the engine. This magneto handles the spark and also the timing so the points and condenser are no longer needed.I took the engine cover off, removed the pull starter mechanism using the proper tool and also removed the flywheel using the small Briggs tool, Makes it so easy. You can just cut off the wires and leave everything under the timing cover and that would work too, but I had the tools so I removed them. The new magneto comes with a metal plug to press into the points plunger hole and seal it shut. If you remove all the points and the pieces with it, you will need to plug the hole. If you leave the points and everything intact and just cut the wires, you will be fine and not have to use the plug. If you are just cutting the wires leading to the points, you will not have to remove the flywheel or the starter mech, just the front engine cover (3 bolts).Anyhow, the new magneto or coil bolted right up and came with a cardboard spacing card to easily set the gap between the magneto and the flywheel. Once all was back together, first pull and the old engine fired right up.Works very well.

Works great, fits slightly different
Product worked great and was a direct replacement. Came with good instructions and spacer tag.For my application, it was necessary to move the rubber spark plug boot from the old armature's wire to the new armature's wire. This was a straightforward process found on youtube (no instructions provided in the box). The new armature's shape was different than the old one, and the redesign resulted in the the "kill switch" wire terminal being oriented differently than on the old one. The result was having to shift the routing of the wire, but it all worked out in the end.Overall, would recommend. If you are not intimately familiar with small engines, a youtube video or two will put you in good shape. Part and delivery were as good as can be expected.

New life for an old mower.
This replacement magneto is very easy to fit (after consulting Utube on the subject) the enclosed instructions make the task look more complicated but in fact the magneto slots straight into place all you have to do is bolt it into position and connect up the KILL wire so you can switch off the engine (you do not even have to remove the old breaker points you can leave them in place, so you do not need to remove the flywheel, only the engine cover). I replaced my 42 year-old mower's magneto and it then started with the first pull of the starting cord, much to my delight.

Perfect !!!!
Made the mistake of buying a cheaper after market coil from someone else for less than half the price but had to return it because it simply was of the poorest quality and didn't work. This was an O.E.M. coil right from Briggs and it worked perfectly and was delivered 3 days ahead of time. This coil 591420 replaced the original coil 298502 which had points & condenser.
