If you roll over the same area repeatedly, it works, here are some tips
We live on a lake with a shallow, sandy (not mucky) gentle sloped bottom with few rocks. I thought this would be ideal for removing the low growing seaweed we get in waist deep water (shallower than that we have no weeds due to waves and water motion. ) I went out into the water two different days and spent an hour rolling a large area each time with very little results except the sandy bottom was stirred up and a few blades of lake grass rose to the surface. The third time I did a small patch and repeatedly rolled the roller back and forth, pressing down. After about 5 passes up and back over the same little area, some of the weeds were gone. So, it works if you start small and spend your energy working in one area, repeatedly pushing and pulling, which is hard to see since the bottom churns up. My tips: 1. if your water is shallow enough, don’t add all the sections to the handle, it’s easier to move with two sections of the handle left out. 2. Get in the water if you can, easier to push and pull. 3. Once you churn up the bottom, you won’t be able to see, so if there is current or movement in your water, start in the area that the water is moving towards. Once that gets cloudy, you can move away from it to the next weedy area, etc. 4. Daily use of 15 minutes will work better than infrequent hours. I am doing mine in a grid pattern and once a day gives the water time to get clear again after being stirred up. 5. Start as early as you can get in the spring. I got mine in mid July and think that earlier rolling would be easier. I hope this was helpful to you in making your decision, if so, please click that it was helpful. Thanks.

Really expensive fail here...AND THEY CHARGED A HUGE RESTOCK FEE for their failed product!!!
This product is expensive.. and normally i just don't spend that money on something i've never seen or held.. but based on reviews here i gave it a shot.. DESPITE there being other products on amazon for half the cost..First.. the product claims to come with a protective cover.. this is misleading.. it comes shipped with a thin plastic snap cover that will not hold up to it being open and closed more than a few times.. it is not a protective cover.. it is a shipping tool so the box doesn't pop open and hurt someone.. THIS is crazy misleading.. how has no one mentioned this?Second... talk about high hopes.. i recently paid A LOT of money for a pro to clean my lake front... at the time of purchase, my lakefront was 99% weed and muck free.. i wanted to purchase something for upkeep.. so i didn't have to spend the upfront ridiculous cost again.. at just shy of $300, this is no small purchase.. as weeds grow up in shallow areas, this struggles to pull them out.. not to mention, the seagrass that comes ashore gets completely tangled in the product and i'm stopping to untangle a sharp, gross mess..Third.. I reallllyyyyyy wanted this for muck and silt... it literally says muck and silt GONE in the heading.. well this does a really good job of turning my lakefront brown for a few hours and then guess what.. still there.. I even so much as decided to run a leaf blower on top of the water thinking this will create fake wind to help carry it away... it did nothing.. it just stirred it up and sank it back down.. muck and silt GONE? Ummm, not even a little..I'm really disappointed in this product and will ultimately be returning it as i've spent an hour every other day other there trying to get rid of what this product claims to get rid of it.. I reached out to the company who answered once, but offered no real help.. With the HIGH price point, especially compared to others on the market, and the number of good reviews i wanted this and needed this to be good.. But it ultimately was a fail.. Did i get a dud or does this product actually suck? I would not spend my hard earned money on this product nor this company..As a side note, my lakefront is small.. like, maybe 15x20? this should have handled it fine.Update: i returned the item due it failing in everything it said it could do - and after a failed attempt out reaching out to the company, i sent it back.. they had the nerve to charge me a HUGE $85 restocking fee.. Are you serious?! I would have kept your bogus product than give you the money back!! What a huge rip off, and disappointment.. I'll for sure be steering my fellow lake people away from this company.

Gets out those weeds and lessens the muck
We've done a lot of hand raking over the years to try to keep the weeds down and some nice swim area for the kids. Found this "rake" and it makes life so much easier. Wish I had found it earlier in the season, but looking forward to a pristine beach next year. The handle adaptors are ridiculous in that you can go 16+ feet into the water. We have some fairly mucky areas but spent about 20 minutes rolling back and forth in a small area and you could tell there was a firmer shoreline. It will take more work, but sure beats having to sink up to your ankles in muck. We noticed others commenting about how hard it is to use, but we have a sandy shoreline so there really wasn't much difficulty. I'm guessing if you have a lot of sticks, rocks, etc. it would be more challenging. I would purchase this again, but hope I don't have to. We will be sharing with our neighbors so we can all have nice beaches.

Amazon needs 10 stars for this!
What a difference the beach roller has made to our lake shore. Wish we had bought this years ago! This is so much more reasonably priced compared to the electric rollers. Once the first passes have been made it does become much easier to work. Be prepared to remove lots of debris on the first pass. It has reclaimed our lake shore for recreation use and we can see the fish very clearly now. Using this on a windy day assists with the process. We are in a low water movement area so choosing a windy day has been an important strategy. This product also arrived direct from the manufacture very quickly and if we were to purchase again, gift or recommend the product we would encourage a simple internet search for the company. We have sand back and the muck is leaving. We have snails and have purchased an additional tool to begin to clear those from the beach area. It is so wonderful to be on our dock now! No slime, no muck, no smell from anaerobic soil. Get this if you want to improve your lake shore. We are considering the extension polls for additional reach for next year.

Sturdy, good-quality product
I've now used the roller for several hours ever a few days. I'm a 105 pound woman, and I easily assembled it alone, and can handle it comfortably - though it is a workout! In that short time, it did a great job of tearing out more weeds from around our lake's dock than many weeks of raking. I can see exactly how it works: First you tear out the weeds and damage/destroy their roots. Next, the roller lifts and digs up all that organic matter (dead leaves, wood, snails...) that makes the lake bottom muddy. Finally, as the organic matter is washed onto shore (where you can collect, dry and burn it), the roller exposes the beautiful SAND! I can see it will take a couple of years, but I've already quadrupled the sandy area around my dock, and I can't wait to use the roller some more. Advice: Don't use the roller before or while anyone is playing in the water. All the lifted weeds and muck makes the water gross and stinky until the next day. Very satisfying to use it on a windy/wavy day, as all the weeks and muck will wash onto shore. Don't expect immediate results - this is a process. Also, expect to get your hands dirty in order to clean the 2 spacers on both ends of the roller. There is no avoiding this. I can imagine this is why any "automatic" system will fail. My only complaint is the lack of a sturdier, longer lasting storage container for the very sharp and expensive roller. It's basically just the packaging plastic it comes in. I plan on finding/making something more sturdy for safe storage.
