Very cool blade, different from your normal Samurai blade
Very cool blade, different from your normal Samurai blade. I took a chance on this one due to the unique blade style and being more expensive than a lot of the Musashi katanas that I own. This blade is light (just over 2 lbs) so I don't think you can do much cutting with it, even though the certificate says it is clay tempered. The quality of craftsmanship is normal for a Musashi. This blade has two bohi (blood grooves), one is the traditional style but only 11 or 12 inches from the habaki it ends. The second bohi is 3 or 4mm wide that runs down the middle and almost the length of the blade. The mune (spine) tapers down after the top bohi and goes into what could be a double edge. It is not sharpened on the back side but you probably could put an edge on it if you wanted to. The fittings are nice and tight, cotton ito wrap and very nice ray skin. The tsuba (handguard) is squared with rounded corners and almost makes it look like a curved Ninjato. The saya is typical Musashi quality, wood core with a PVC outer skin. The finish is nice. It holds the sword semi tight but good enough. The sageo is cotton and is just what I call a shoestring tied in traditional style. Overall I am happy with the purchase although I wouldn't recommend any serious cutting with this katana. It is 1060 clay tempered but is a light blade so I will only use it for display, light practice or maybe self defense purposes if needed. Not truly functional but the unique blade makes it a cool sword to have in your collection.

absolute best bang-for-buck on a kogerasu maru blade since cold steel ...
Koshirae has hideous black paint, back edge is "false" and lacks hamon. All told, though, absolute best bang-for-buck on a kogerasu maru blade since cold steel first released theirs (& I've owned them all)
