It comes in a clamshell-style plastic package and is absolutely appropriate for storage when not using it. I generally use the sharp/smooth blade, so I use the package to store the serrated blade.

No, it does not. Remember, the screw is reverse threaded.

Use the non serrated blade. You only use the serrated blade for cheese or bread. I also make homemade bacon, it works great!

Chef's Choice has it on their website (although it's out of stock at the moment). It's part number S615318 or "615 Blade Fastening Screw".
