Excellent replacement for broken charging port
I bought this because I broke the charging port on my GoPro Silver 4 and didn't want to pay to have it fixed. This cable plugs into the "Hero Port" on the back of the GoPro camera and once connected through USB to a power source will power up the GoPro. Since I use this almost exclusively in the car I keep it plugged into the lighter. I believe it will also work if plugged into an external battery with a USB port as well. I did have to cut away a part of the housing that holds the GoPro because it was in the way of the cable but it was easily done with a utility knife. Highly recommend this.

Great product for long Timelapses
Using this product with a small battery bank, I can use my go pro all night to make star-trails, taking hundreds of photos without worrying about battery dying.

Works!
I was a bit worried when I read that people were having DOA issues with this.. however mine arrived in perfect working order. I tested it with the battery in the Go Pro and out of the Go Pro and it worked as described!Out of the box it works fine and that's all I care about. I'll update the thread as time goes on. But as of 4/28/16 it works perfectly... One improvement I would like to see is maybe give us different cord length options, the current length is a bit too long (better too long than too short!) also I just wish the wire exited out the side rather than straight out, to give more clearance. Overall pretty happy!

okayish depending on how used
seems ok, has a firm connection so hopefully it won't vibrate loose for in-car applications. The magnet box thing is too close though, needs to be farther away so it can be secured and not rattle against the case. I have tried a couple of these type of connectors and they seem to all have a fatal flaw in that they will not charge the battery. If your solution doesn't provide constant power, the internal battery will drain, the camera won't switch automatically to external power, then your clock will reset and frustration ensues, probably not the cable's fault but the way it works with a Hero4 is dumb. I appreciate the effort though.

Longterm review
This is my 2nd one, my previous was accidentally damaged. Like others said, cable is fragile so pull at the plug instead of on the cord.Using this, I've managed to run a gopro hero 4 black for over 10hours, in a low 70's F room. running a 256gb card. Max settings,, 60mbps, 4k superview, protune on, etc.As for heat, gopro's will still get hot of the processing power needed regardless of battery insertion. But it won't get as hot.

TOO HOT
My first time using it i put it on my shelf in my bedroom to run a quick time lapse while i went out for a run. My house was cool and air conditioned. I ran this from a usb outlet i have in my room. It was on for 50 minutes and when i touched my go pro it was HOT. I hope i,can return this. I will try using it again and update this review. If I dont update it, it means I returned it and hated it. Cant go lower than 1 star. It should not be overheating my go pro without my battery installed. I dont want to cook my.go pro. I want go simply do a time lapse. Ill return this for another. Getting hot after 50 minutes of being in AC. Thats ridiculous

Works great...
Works as directed. At 10 ft the cord is insanely long, but have been using it on my motorcycle for about a week now. It's great not needing to worry about the battery being charged or being dead, and with no battery in the camera it runs cooler. When using the GoPro app on your phone to WiFi connect to the camera the app will think that the battery needs to be charged but it doesn't prevent recording.
