One of those "glad I purchased this!", even months later.
I've been doing pull-ups for over 30 years. I used to have a Joe Weider bar in my bedroom door frame for many years and thought it was pretty darned good. I lost the Weider bar a couple years back and got this to replace it. I'm a research nut and this pull-up bar looked most promising from based on the positive reviews. For me and my specifications (160 lbs, only doing pull-ups and leg raises, with regular-sized door frames), I am completely satisfied with this purchase.Pros: Very sturdy bar with minimal play, easily adjustable (can do so on the fly while it's up and mounted), well designed, and attractive chrome finish with foam grips. All of the hardware was present.Cons: There is a screw right in the middle of the bar. It's not a problem for me as I use the bar solely for pull-ups, but it may be for others.**A couple of caveats... First, I recommend using this bar with the mounting hardware. It's strong enough to hold in my door frames without, but if an unsuspecting child were to hang upside down on it (which I'd strongly advise against doing), slippage could be catastrophic. The bar is much more secure when used with the mounting hardware. To boot, door frames painted with glossy paint probably won't keep the bar and the rubber mounts reliably. I've always found them to slip over time. Lastly, make sure you have a sturdy, patent door frame in place if you're not going to use the mounting hardware. The bar works by pushing against the door frame on both sides which may lead to door frame coming apart at the corners. Using the mounting hardware should circumvent this possibility.

Dangerous/doesn't work without safety bracket; cracks door frame when tighten too much
The amount of compressive force you need to hold the rod in place is tremendous if you don't use the safety brackets. It's so much force that it cracks you door frame. Even with a large amount of compression didn't stop the bar from slipping and giving me a small toe injury. I was about 112 lbs when I used it and I think that's considerably light! I would recommend anyone wanting to do pull-ups use an upper body workout bar that hangs from the door frame instead (if your door frame has a big enough lip to support the hanging portion).PS: I didn't install the safety brackets because I didn't want to drill holes into my door frame. A workout hang bar doesn't require any drilling if the door frame has sufficient lip).

Great product!
I live in a rental house and the other pull up products (Like what comes with the P90X program) do not fit in the doorways in this house. This item works perfectly!! My husband and I both use this, we keep it in the doorway at all times. My husband weighs 175 and he has not had an issue with the bar coming lose or falling down. My kids (ages 5 and 6) also use this to practice for gymnastics. Great product!

I researched this product and other options like it on the market before making this purchase
I researched this product and other options like it on the market before making this purchase. Due to other reviews I had high expectations. Now that I have installed and used my Big Mike's Pull-up Bar I can report that it is exactly what I needed, and that my expectations have been happily met. One caution for those considering this product: If there are any weaknesses in the door frame where you plan to secure it the strength of the expansion mechanism in the Pull-Up Bar will find it! I found less stress to the door frame when securing the Pull-Up Bar near the corner. It comes with end caps that can be screwed into the door frame, but I chose not to use them, so cannot comment on this feature. For what it's worth, my weight is in the 180-185 lbs. range, so I came nowhere near testing the maximum of 300 lbs. that this product is rated for. Based on my experience thus far I do not hesitate to recommend this product to others for its quality, strength, utility, and cost.

Good-quality product, effective at grabbing on to walls though ...
Good-quality product, effective at grabbing on to walls though I'm paranoid of it giving way and falling, so I still stick the two ends on top of things. Depending on your pull-up form, you might find the bar rotating as you pull, eventually causing it to slip off or tighten too much. It's not a major concern though, unless your form is way off it won't rotate far enough to be a serious issue. Note that it is not necessary to drill nails into your walls with this, as it functions perfectly well if you just use the rotating end system to leave it up between two walls. But, if you tighten it too much using that method, it will likely leave indentations on the wall. Keep that in mind, and be careful with the initial setup to avoid it.

Wonderful Chin-up bar!! Highly recommended!
Works great as it had hoped. My daughter loves doing chin ups on it. I had also ordered a set of brackets to hold the chin up bar, as there where none pictired that accompanied the chin up bar it self. When actually I'd does, just cancelled the order of those for 5.00 and waiting months to receive them. I'd advise to install the hangers ( what I call them anyway ) to prevent separating the door frame. We're in a rental house, and what to minimize damage to the house.

Good bar
Love it. I have another pull up bar but one side is thinner than the other as you twist it to extend it to fit your door frame. This extends both sides so both grips are equal thickness. Looks good. Been using it every morning b4 heading out. Only complaint were the screws that come with it wore are weak, as if made of water. I had to buy my own set of screws which are relatively cheap. My drill destroyed the ones that came with the bar with no effort

I am very pleased with this pull-up bar
In tightening it (call me paranoid, but I was afraid of it falling on me as I was doing a pull or chin up, so), I cracked the door frame when I first mounted it, but I did it without the brackets (and it is nothing that a little putty, sanding, and paint won't cover). It's been up in my door frame for months and hasn't moved anywhere. It didn't budge when two guy friends (separately) tried it and both weighed over 180lbs. I am very pleased with this pull-up bar.

Junk
This is a deluxe pull-up bar? Note the flaking chrome and rust in the picture I've attached. It came out of the box that way. I also don't really like that there are screws in the middle of the bar, but that's a minor thing. At least it seems strong enough to hold my weight with the mounting brackets. Too bad I don't really want to handle it because my hands smell all nice and metallic after that.

Size not as advertised
I purchased this product because it's supposed to fit doors between 24" and 36". When the package arrived even the box says that. After extending the bar I realized that it maxes out at 30". Thirty! That's six inches less than promised and six inches less than I need. Product is being returned.
