Safe, Sturdy, and Perfect for Family Rides!
I’ll admit, I was really nervous about the idea of putting our little one in a bike seat like this at first. The thought of my wife falling or getting hit worried me a lot. But after using the Topeak BabySeat II, I’m so impressed and reassured by how solid and well-made this seat is. It’s incredibly sturdy yet surprisingly lightweight, which makes it easy for my wife to handle. She actually prefers this over the pull-behind cart we used to use, and I can see why! Our little one absolutely loves being close to mom and getting a better view of the world. It’s made bike rides feel more connected and fun for both of them.Installation was relatively straightforward, but I do recommend reading the instructions twice to make sure you get the under portion set up correctly—it’s a bit more complex than expected. Once it’s on, though, it feels rock-solid and secure.Overall, this bike seat is a game-changer for family rides. It’s safe, comfortable for the kiddo, and mom-approved. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable way to bring their little ones along on bike adventures!

Pricey, but worth it.
I've tried the cheaper ones and they only fit Department Store Bikes (DSBs).This one fits my cyclocross bike, standard road bike, and our (somewhat older) Santana Tandem. I did not need the 'disc brake version' as my bikes have cantilever and caliper style brakes. THIS SEAT/RACK WILL CLEAR CANTILEVERED BRAKE AND CALIPER BRAKE BIKES. Probably linear pull brake bikes too. If you bought a DSB, it will probably fit that too. If you bought your bike at a LBS... it'll likely fit that too. (and the LBS may be able to install it for you too)The rack requires the standard frame rack mounting provisions. Seatstay rack mount holes (or adapter) and either rack or fender (Ideally both) provisions in the rear dropout area of the frame. When using this, it sort of goes without saying that you'll always want to make sure your brakes are in good working order and that your wheels/tires can handle the extra weight of the rack/seat/child.The DSB baby carriers require essentially a cruiser-style seatpost mount and geometry... this one fits real road bikes.... And it is easy to remove from the rack with no tools required. This was great for me because I could take the toddler to daycare and drop the seat with the child and didn't have to carry the seat to work all day... (Other child rides on a top-tube seat... so I have a triple bike until I get to daycare... where it turns into a double... and is a single CX on the weekends! Having 36-spoke 4-cross wheels and 32mm wide tires help--and canti's help the stopping!)There are also different colored inserts (and the stock color is available as a replacement!!) available for purchase from Topeak... and you can purchase the special racks for each bike and the seat moves between them... and the rack looks a lot like a standard rack and largely functions like a standard aftermarket bike rack... (extra racks cost about the same as other sturdy aftermarket racks.. not DSB bikeracks) and is very sturdy--can hold heavy panniers when not in the baby-carry role.... but does lack the extended wings needed to stabilize some brands of panniers.... pizza mounts just fine with bungees though. (can't carry child + pizza though)Due to high initial cost, when I'm done with this, I expect I'll be able sell this used if it is still in good shape when I'm done using it in 4-6 years. (This is much cheaper to use as a retrofit than a cargo bike + pen)

This seat saved my son's life
You'll read other reviews about how this shipped and installed but my review is about the real reason you bought this seat - safety for your child. My son (just turned 3) was on the back while riding when I hit a large branch in a small pile of leaves and the bike tilted forward with the rear lifting up. I immediately put my left leg out to prevent the bike from flipping. This made the bike turn in the air and land sideways (on my left). I hit the concrete first then the front of the bike landed on me and the rest twisted in the air. From the ground I saw the rear of the bike in the air and the look on my son's face as he hit the concrete. He basically fell sideways to the ground from about 6 feet high. He was saved by the child bike seat (which is all scuffed up now). I picked the bike up and pulled him from the seat removing his helmet and asking him if anything hurts. Based on the impact, I was betting his arm was broken. Other than having the wind knocked out of him and being scared, he was fine. His head never came anywhere near the concrete because the the cushion and sides of the seat protected him. The straps and bar kept him in place. His legs were never in danger of being crushed because they were strapped in. Had I bought a $40 seat from Walmart instead, this story may have a different ending.
