The Dummy's Guide folks have recently released a brand new language series in the Dummy Guide format, e.g., tips, warnings, top ten lists, etc., but they are really designed for a big more sophisticated user.The Chinese for Dummies guide is one of those guides for the more sophisticated user.One of the best parts of this book is that it is paired with online resources that let you work on your vocabulary.I love the book, and it is one of those resources that you will return to time and time again as you improve your Mandarin skills.I expect to be referencing this book for the next several months.I highly recommend this book!

My standard preference in language learning supplements is the For Dummies brand because it is simplified to assist learning, unlike some professors who make it overly competitive to learn anything.

We have purchased textbooks and workbooks over a 3 year period to reinforce learning and give our children an edge in Chinese I, II, and III Honors Level. This book, by far, has been the most helpful, especially for review and bolstering performance in Chinese III Honors level (Where more reading, writing, and literature interpretation is required). Scanned through about four options at a local bookstore, before choosing Chinese for Dummies. This book is organized logically and reinforces what my children are learning. Price was better online.

Okay, I see what the problem is here. I have used many of the for dummies book (the German for dummies and Chinese characters for dummies series are great and I would give all of them 5 stars), but the difference in this one is that from the start has no vocabulary building and no indicators of which parts of the phrases presented are the subject, object, or verb. So essentially, I am just looking at a string of Chinese characters and pin yin and trying to guess which character is what word from the English translation. Color coding would be best or adding bold/italics if color is not an option.But, I will say that the writing Chinese characters for dummies is a great place to start to build you vocabulary, learn about stroke order, and culture. This book, for sure I will use in addition with other materials. But, solely for self study, I find this pretty difficult.

Bought this booked used and it came in very good condition!! The only part that was a bit damaged was the cover, it just had a few tiny tears. This book is very useful and easy to comprehend would recommend this to others!

Good learning tool for our child who is studying Chinese

Accurate.

Great book (I've used the Spanish one before too), but the 'free' audio is impossible to find and without that there's really no point in buying it. Chinese is based on tones and if you can't listen and practice to them- well, you can't learn Chinese.

Fast delivery, easy to learn with basic and a little advance Chinese. You should practice your Chinese both with Duolingo and this book. It will help you improve your reading writing and speaking skills.
