Works as advertised
Got our first warning that the power was out a few weeks ago. I tried to check status by sending it a text message. It would not respond. I called manufacturer and was told this is normal when power is out. About an hour later, I got a text message that the power was back on. I tried to check status again and it responded in a few seconds that all was ok.

An amazing device that's not just for sump pumps
This is an amazing device. From ease of setup to alert functionality to product support, it's the total package.First, setup is a breeze. You just plug and play and send a few text messages to the phone; voila, done. In no time, you'll be up and running with water leak protection.Second, don't mistake this for just a sump pump alarm. Aquarium users should take notice of this product, because it does everything that the other hardware out there does but the PitBoss does them better and more reliably. You can set one sensor to detect water, i.e. a leak that has let water get to your sensor, and configure the second sensor as a floating low-water alarm. If either trips, or if you lose power, you get a text message.Third, the dual sensor functionality and cell phone use are great. Having two sensors makes this unit even more accurate, and the fact that the device uses the cell phone network is superior to every other product I've seen. With every other product (except one, which relies on your land line, though I don't have a land line), if the power goes out then you're probably not going to receive a notification because the device, your cable modem, and/or local cable network hardware is without power. Unless cell phone towers go down—which happens, but not often in my experience—then you'll still get alerts from the PitBoss. Finally, customer support is great, and they are happy to help you configure hidden settings on this device. Want the device to contact you but not sound an audible alarm? Sure thing, it does that, and it's easy to make it do so. Want the high-water float to be a low-water float? No problem, they'll tell you how. Want to know what the device is made of (e.g. does the float contain any copper—it does not)? They'll answer your question. All around, this device is amazing. I looked at many other options for my fish tank monitoring, including Apex systems, home automation systems, etc. This is the best by a long shot.I recommend this product to anyone who wants to detect water where it doesn't belong.

Will Not Work after 12/31/19
As of 12/31/19 this unit will not longer work. I purchased this less than two years ago, have paid for the service through those years, and will now have a useless hunk of plastic at the end of this year. Instead of offering an upgraded 4g sim card, they are simply throwing this version out and requiring you to purchase an entirely new item (with a measly 10% off aka direct slap in the face). I truly did enjoy it while it lasted, but honestly feel a little cheated now. Just wish they would do a little more to treat current and loyal customers right.

Nice Folks! Works as advertised!
I am using this alarm as a sender for a refrigerator/freezer alarm system and it works great. Any dry contact can be substituted for the float and water contact sensors supplied. All the Alarm knows is that when the contact closes (I think it can also be set for NC contacts), it should send the text messages to the specified numbers. Their tech support people were very helpful in answering my questions and providing tips to semi-customize some of the text scripts to match my needs. The only problem that I encountered is that my budget cell plan will not allow me to dial the 500- number needed to "program" the unit. It will receive the text alerts but I had to use my wife's phone to program it. All this said, if I had a sump pump, I would be one of the few with one in Southern AZ but I know this alarm would give me the peace of mind a person with a sump pump in a critical application would want.

Annual fee imposed without knowledge at purchase time
NOT a rating of the unit, but rather the fact there is NO mention of annual connection fee! I did not know this until I started the activation fee!How easy that would be to include it in the product info on their web site. I found the product via Google, so had no idea it would be an ongoing expense after the initial $200.+ investment.

Great piece of mind knowing my basement is being monitored ...
Great piece of mind knowing my basement is being monitored and will notify me via text if there is a water issue or temperature issue. I've seen first hand what a broken toilet line can do to a house. This is a must have if you have a basement, sump pump and a high water table like we have in ND. **Buyer Beware** It ONLY O N L Y works on Verizon network. It clearly states that, yet there are a lot of dumbheads who complained they didn't know that until after buying. Simple...........READ THE REVIEWS and ANSWERED QUESTIONS!!!$48.00 a year is worth the piece of mind. I test this often and it sends a text to mine and my wife' phone every time. Simple to install.Again......................you have to sign up for Verizon service on this.Pic1 MountedPic2 Floor moisture sensorPic3 Sump Pump well float sensor

Nice. Now
This is one of those devices that provides peace of mind. We live in a location where the water table is higher and we lose power more than normal. So, this alerts us when we're not home and we are able to monitor our sump pump and start a generator if needed. Within two weeks of installation, we had an alert that the power had gone out. It alerted us an hour later when power was restored. Nice. Now, there's no worry or wondering when we travel. We also have a sensor installed in the sump pump well so that we will also be alerted if there's a problem with our sump pump and water is rising. One thing: It's not clear in the packaging at first, but there is an annual cost for the unit since it's connected to the Verizon network.
