Beautiful plates but it took me returning them three times them buying them again to get a total of 6 plates that had no scratches or dings.

I got tired of having sharp knives dull themselves on ceramic plates. After some research, these plates seemed to fit the bill as an alternative that would not immediately dull my knives. This site advertises that the plates are not pieces glued together, that they are sculpted from a block of solid wood. This feature, as well as the hardness of acacia wood and the very reasonable price, convinced me that these plates fit the bill to use whenever I had a meal that required the use of a sharp knife.The plates I got were not solid wood, but are clearly pieces glued together. In addition, I was surprised to find that I could easily score the wood with my fingernail, indicating that the wood is not that hard. I am no expert on wood, so I cannot say whether or not the plates are actually acacia, but the plates I got were unsatisfyingly softer than I expected.I cannot recommend these plates on the basis that they are not solid wood as advertised. As for the softness of the wood, that is just my subjective impression, but I found them to be unsuitable for my purposes.

I like the "lip" on the plates: It not only serves as a "handle" for transport, but it helps prevent food from sliding off the plate while carrying.
