Will it work? Some info to help you decide ...
I bought this gizmo to make my bedside table lamp dimmable so that I could read an ACTUAL BOOK in bed without keeping my partner awake. But because I was installing it in a worklight-style lamp with a hidden socket (see pic), I wasn't 100% sure it would fit correctly. In the end, I got it to work with a little bit of help from my local hardware store.POSITIVES:Works great, and contrary to other posts, dims LEDs. (I'm using an Ecosmart 60w LED light bulb, #A810SS-Q1D-01.)IT DOES WORK, BUT ... a few little things :1) Both screw terminals are on the bottom of the socket, not on the side as on the original socket. That meant that I had to cram the wiring into the socket cap (i.e. the metal piece under the socket). It remains to be seen if this will cause ... god knows what outcome. In the event of calamity I'll update this, assuming my laptop is still operational.2) The switch post and knob are permanently affixed, which may be a problem if it's not a good fit for your fixture or taste (see below).3) The switch post is too thick (5 mm or about .2 inches) to fit into the slot in my lamp. I used a metal file to widen the slot.4) The switch is pretty short (approx. 1/2" long) and plasticky-looking (see pic), which might be a problem in some fixtures and households. I'll be looking for a way to cover or replace the knob.5) As others have noted, be sure to label your wires so you know which one should be attached to the brass vs. silver terminal before you take them off the original switch. I used a sharpie and a small piece of masking tape.GO FOR IT.

The Knob Is Too Short For My Project, Won't Reach Past The Socket Lamps Decorative Housing.
This is in fact a “Full Range Dimmer” so I'm happy with that.... Is your socket installed solo in it plastic or metal housing or does the standard housing slip inside a decorative housing? For instance, the knob may not reach outside of a decorative housing... The knob shaft Is 14.75mm (”.58”) long. The knob shaft gets 3-4mm shorter once the knob dial is slipped on it.The knob (I think you can't tell by the images) shaft also larger in diameter than a standard shaft I'm guessing probably 3-4mm wide. Sorry, didn't think to measure it when I had it out. Can't use it, will have to find something else to use it on. Good Luck!!Edit: Can't find one that will work, think I'll have to improvise to get this one to work. Thinking about heating up a normal shaft and drilling a tiny pilot hole in the dimmer shaft then forcing the normal shaft into the small pilot hole. Maybe, IDK. Good Luck!

They work well
I installed two of these today. No problems out of the bag. No history on durability however. These do indeed fit the standard size lamholder shells that are out there on almost every lamp out there. The exception is the comparable Leviton 6151 rotary dimmer/shell which is a unique size. So these will convert most existing on/off and 3way lamholders to rotary dimming but are not direct replacement guts for existing Leviton 6151 rotary dimmers. I might have just bought the Levitons, which are traditional brass but the lamps I wanted to convert are chrome with aluminum colored lamholders. So I used these Satco inserts/guts to convert the silver shells to dimming. They work reasonably well on a few different dimming LED bulbs that I tried. It would be really nice if someone came out with these that are designed to maximize the dimming potential of LED bulbs. Still they work pretty well all in all.Jay

Good Dimmers
I used to work for a light dimmer company in Euless, TX. These so far work just like they should. The dimmer has a pretty good range of control. I replaced two standard 3-way lamp sockets. If the dimmers last they should pay for them selves in the cost of replacing expensive 3- way bulbs. Since the dimmers have a rotary switch the bulbs must start burning at a low current which will make the bulbs last indefinitely. Incandescent light bulbs burn out when a switch is turn on because of the current shock on a cold filament about 99% of the time . I examined the circuit and it looked similar to what we used to build. One problem is that the screw tabs were too long for the standard lamp socket and the tabs need bending before fitting. Some engineer as well as the quality inspector are NOT DOING their jobs.

it;s hard to review a product that I have only used for a week.
The only reason I didn't rate it higher is that I have only had the product for a couple of weeks. These reviews should not be done so soon. A person cannot possibly judge the quality of the product in such a short period of time. Thank you...

Nice upgrade
Nice upgrade to old lamp. No more expensive 3 way bulbs.

Mfg Stands Behind Their Products! Outstanding!
I am writing to share my experience with both the product and the manufacturer. The product did not work out of the box and unfortunately I didn't get around to the installation until well after Amazon's 30 day return policy. After reading a one star review of non-existent customer service, I was curious. So I called Satco customer service. I can summarize their attitude and response in one word: Outstanding! Replacement part is on the way, and they could not have more helpful or nicer. The reality of mass production of electrical parts is that some items are going to fail immediately. The sign of a good manufacturer, IMO, is to stand behind the product and replace it ASAP. Satco did just that. Couldn't ask for more.

Be aware of the switch knob length
I just installed this device. It seems fine, controls a 150 watt equivalent. The only thing I'm unhappy about is that the knob that controls brightness is too short for this lamp. The device and lamp must lean because the knob isn't long enough and I can't imagine a fix. It would probably be fine with most lamps and we're going to live with the issue. See attached photos. It would be nice if there were some sort of an extension, the fixture this replaced had such an extension but it was threaded, this knob is just a push on friction fit.
