I purchased this to record video with great sound on my iPad camera app using a M-audio mobile preamp usb interface and MXL990 condenser microphone (which needs phantom power). I plugged the mic into the preamp, plugged the USB cord into this lightning camera adapter, added my lightning charging cord which I plugged I to standard 110 outlet. THEN turned on the camera app and selected video BEFORE plugging in the camera adapter to the ipad!! This way the app recognized the interface and things recorded beautifully. Only inconvenience is having to go thru these steps whenever the camera app has been disconnected but I am very happy for the inexpensive solution to get studio sound recorded with an ipad!

The charging/power port on this item is a Lightning port, not USB-C. The photo is correct. There are similar devices with a USB-C charging port. None of them are data ports. These devices mimic the Apple Camera adapter. It goes “in between” your regular charging cable and your phone, and gives you a USB-A port. So with this you can plug a device into the USB-A port and power it using whatever charger/cable setup you normally use. And the phone/pad charges at the same time. Perfect if that’s what you need. If you want to plug in a USB-C device, add a USB-A to USB-C adapter dongle. Data=USB-A port only. Having said all that, it works.

This looks like it could be an Apple accessory. Same quality, decent cable, and it worked well the first few times I used it. The cable "could be" a bit longer but that might make it more trouble than it is already I need to figure out how to strap it down so it's not always getting in the way. Power delivery seems fine, the phone charges if I connect it to power, and my external Mic worked flawlessly. Very pleased.
