Q: Would it be a bad idea to use a light coat of the spray cleaner and then use this as a top coat?

Yes, I use it this way as well. I clean the chain with SONAX degreaser (green spray bottle) wash it off with water, blow dry the chain and apply motul lube.

Q: What is the lubricants base? does it contain ptfe (teflon), moly or other "really bad" chemicals?

I googled " Motul C5 chain paste MSDS" in hopes that the material safety datasheet might list hazardous/active ingredients. The MSDS says there are no hazardous ingredients to be concerned about.

Q: How many applications do you get from the 5.7oz. tube?

How long a tubes lasts depends on how often you use it. But I get about six for each tube, assuming a clean chain.

Q: Do you wipe the excess paste or just let it rock?

With the brush tip you should not have to wipe anything off
