MiiPC All-In-One Android Powered Family Device: Mini PC, Media Center and Gaming Console with Cloud-based Parental Controls, Premium Model (2GB RAM / 8GB Flash Memory)

When I read the only review this item had (at the time I purchased) they gave this 3 stars. Looking at the specs I figured they must be wrong. I have a media PC I built years ago running full-blown Windows which runs fast and can play full HD and has about the same processor speed and RAM. However, this computer is indeed slow. Often, I will click on an item and see and hear a delay of up to a second. I can't figure out why. This is with few applications running.Good thing this is for my kids and not me!I am still getting the hang of the parental controls and overall limitations of the platform. I have an Android tablet and my wife has a phone, so I am very familiar with Android. I also have a UDOO mini-computer that I'm using for a project and I'm alternating between Linux and Android (also 4.2.2) for my testing. UDOO is similar to MiiPC but without a case or parental controls. And it is way faster (responsive) despite a slower processor and less RAM. I wonder if the MiiPC firmware isn't quite optimized. Perhaps it will get better with future releases. I am running version 3.In any case, MiiPC does seem to do the tasks I want it to do. My kids (9 and 7) will be using it for home schooling. I had thought to buy two of these in case they need to be on at the same time but decided to wait and see. I kind of wish that MiiPC would simply release their software for use in other Android devices. Then I could get a beefier setup and still retain the control I'm sure I will like. If I can remember to, I'll update this review once the Summer is over and the kids are doing their schoolwork.

This is a good value, and you can side load apps, but it is a little bit slow.This has it's own app store, which makes it a little frustrating because you have to side-load apps that are not available in their store.Another thing I noticed is that some apps don't like the screen orientation (it does not allow you to use the portrait mode) so some menus don't work right on some apps.Overall, the management of the device is great for kids - the accompanying mobile app to limit access/check up on usage works very well.This is a good way to add a small footprint PC for a good price.

Nice box, cool little setup. I like it but wanted to use xbmc on this box but does work right on it but box is okay! Thanks!!!
