Q: I find the waffle like texture shows through on light colored fabrics. Am I doing something wrong?

I have never had this problem although I only use this with cotton. Doubt you are doing anything wrong. You should try the heat n bond light. It probably won’t produce the waffle effect on lighter fabric. One thing to remember is that Usually once something is washed it relaxes any of those lines out

Q: Can I use it for embroidery?

I think you can if you mean using heat bond on the back of your embroidery and then ironing it onto something else.
