Nice Thermos For The Price
My husband takes soup in his lunch most every day, and the o-ring that seals the top from leaking, in his thermos broke and could not be replaced. I was very happy to find this Cayman Stainless Steel thermos with a different top. Hopefully this will retain its seal and last for many years. I just got them (I ordered 2) and have started using them. So far I am happy with the quality and workmanship - durability has yet to be seen.I am adding this update to my original review. We have used the thermos for a few months now and my husband says it keeps the soup hotter than the old thermos with the o-ring that broke. The only problem that we have found is that the glue that holds the metal cap on let go and the cap would just turn and turn. I figured out that I could lift off the metal cap from the inner plastic and we used some silicone caulk to reglue the metal cap to the plastic insert. The box that the thermos came in, said it was 'dishwasher safe, bpa and pthalate free, and 18/8 stainless steel' and it cautioned not to put thermos in the freezer as it could damage the vacuum seal. I believe that putting the top in the dishwasher is what made the glue let go they should probably add that as a 'caution'. Anyway, we are still happily using the thermos' every day.

Leaky lid
Pros- This product is one of its kind since it's the only one I found to be all stainless steel, which means it will be durable.- It's cheaper than it's closest competitor, which is the Klean Kanteen food jars that are ridiculously expensive and plastic on the inside- It will keep your food cold for a long time. I put pure ice in it and 24 hours later, there was still a chunk of ice with really cold water.- It will keep hot food hot with approximately 60F decrease in 7 hours (according to my experiment).Cons- Although it claims to have a redesigned lid, the lid is still flawed. This food jar would probably work fine for solid foods like rice, but it is definitely not leak proof.- The lid needs improvement, I'm considering returning it because of this. There are many products that would work the same without the lid problem. Although they won't be stainless steel, they will be more effective than this leaky lid.- I wish it came in different sizes like 32oz or 64oz

worry that it wont open, lid slips when twisting. keeps food hot like other brands such as thermos.
the lid feels like its slipping on the rubber when I try to open it. Im afraid at some point its not going to open at all. Other than that it insulates well. I have another brand made by thermos with a similar style and Ive decided to stick to that model instead of this one. simply because of that issue with the lid. I do like the shape of the lid.

I thought you liked it? " He said he did like it ...
My son decided he wanted to pack his lunch this year and there were a lot of options for keeping food warm. I have purchased the ones from Wal-Mart and food is basically at room temperature by the time he eats lunch. I'm a fan of Stanley brand but read some issues on food getting caught in the rim. So we tried this one. The day after it arrived we decided to do a test. I filled the thermos with boiling water (left the lid just sitting on top) and let it sit for probably 5-7 minutes. I then dumped the water and filled it with potatoes, meat and a small amount of broth (still very hot, straight from the simmering pot). We did not check it at all for 4.5 hours. We then opened it and I handed my son a fork and he took a bite. He immediately spit it in the sink... I said "what's wrong, I thought you liked it?" He said he did like it but it was so hot he couldn't eat it! I then took a bite and had to blow on it because it was so hot! I could not believe it worked so well. I highly recommend this item and can't wait to start packing lunches for school.

Poorly insulated. Food does not maintain safe tempurature.
The exterior of the container heats up immediately (heat loss) and the food cools or warms to near room temperature within a couple of hours. Looks great and lid fits without leaking but unsuitable for the purpose for which it is intended. Food simply does NOT stay hot enough to be safe to eat more than two hours after packing it, making this item useless by food safety standards. We bought two and they are the same.By contrast, our "OGGI" brand stainless steel thermos keeps liquids HOT for 8 hours!!! Unfortunately, we haven't been able to find an OGGI food jar.The design department gets two stars because it really is ergonomic and attractive but it doesn't work so minus three stars for function.

Stainless steel - inside and out
I've been looking for a high quality insulated stainless steel container for months. I have an older 16oz Kleen Kanteen insulated container I use for tea, and like it a lot, and I was looking for something similar so I could bring hot lunches to work. But all the new Kleen Kanteen containers have plastic on the inside of the lid. Then I found this Cayman Kitchen product. It's entirely made of stainless steel, even inside and is of very high quality. It easily keeps hot foot hot for over six hours. The inner diameter of this 16oz container is big enough so I can get my hand inside to wash it. The container is completely water tight and sealed with what appears to be a silicone gasket. Hot lunch for me every day!

Unusable
Unfortunately, the thermos in unusable. The lid won't twist on all of the way-- it twists down enough to keep the lid on, but not enough to seal. Also the metal portion of the lid isn't attached to the plastic part, so when I try to twist the lid on or off the metal portion just spins around without engaging the plastic threaded portion of the lid-- and the metal part can easily come off. I tried to seal the thermos by taking the metal off entirely and just twisting the plastic part to make it work, but still no seal. So, two major defects. The thermos arrived well packaged-- no dents or dings, so I don't think that is it.
