Surpasses expectations
This product is beyond what i expected as far as it's ability to suck up dust. I can say it probably prevents about 99 percent of dust from getting away. I used it for sanding a ceiling. 2 down sides that are minor, using a rigid shop vac makes it difficult at first because it get stuck to the ceiling so you needto adjust the suction with a dial by the handle but may require a few strokes so paper gets a bit worn down. It is hard to sand side to side on the longer side of the sander. I haven't figured a way to overcome that, but it may be due to angle while sanding ceiling. Other than that, this works excellent. Skip buying the pole, im sure most of you looking probably have a good quality paint pole. I used minimal drop clothes and found zero dust on uncovered surfaces.

Easy to use, super effective
I'm using this with a very strong shop vac, and it's absolutely amazing. Barely any dust, i don't need to wear my mask and have minimal clean up. A little more dust generated when sanding a ceiling, but really minimal. For the value, this product is awesome - highly recommend. I bought perforated sandpaper and it creates a super strong suction cup. I use it with a strong metal painter's pole to support the movement and it's been flawless. Couldn't be happier for the price. 5 stars

Doesn't work well with a pole added
I've done sanding before - a few times. I hate it. I prefer to hand sand but it makes such a mess. This contraption works amazingly for catching the dust. It's not 100% but if you keep your vacuum cleaned and "tap" on the sanding head every so often to bounce the dust off the screen, I'd say it's at least at 98%.The problem with this product is the head itself when a pole is attached. It flops this way and that with a "thud" when you change directions. I lasted about 3 minutes using it with a pole as it ended up putting gauges in my dried joint compound. Ticked me off, to say the least! I did the rest of it by holding the head and guiding it with my hands. Up and down my little step ladder. It worked great. However, my arms AND legs are now killing me. I highly suggest, unless you are VERY WELL VERSED in sanding with a pole, buying the hand sander they have or, like me, prepare to use it by guiding it with your hands. Otherwise - great product and now I don't have to clean the entire room of dust.

You need the right tool and the right expectations for the job.
I'm sanding drywall with this product and it is perfect for the job. If you're sanding something harder or rougher, then at a minimum I'd get coarser sanding mesh than the included medium grit. It may be wiser to consider the higher grade professional option (09180).Complaints regarding the suction being too great to move the sanding unit against the wall is due to power of each person's vacuum. The unit does have adjustable rings meant to manipulate suction flow, but the differences are subtle.Complaints about the flexibility of the head making it flop over are due to improper leverage. When you stand at the right distance and are properly holding the pole, circular sanding is a breeze. Standing too close to the wall or ceiling makes the job significantly more difficult, so you may need a step ladder to find the right leverage.Unless you received a defective product, the force it would take to break the product as some reviews have described means the product was used at an improper distance/sanding grit. This product is mostly made of plastic and last I checked, plastic is not indestructible. The product does well to remove dust as you sand, but the mesh can get a bit congested which reduces its ability to suck up dust. This is especially true for the areas that are further from the point of suction. Be sure to check your screen for build-up if you notice dust falling or remaining on the wall.If you go into this with proper expectations, I think you'll be satisfied with the product. I am definitely happy with with this product and would buy it again, or get the professional grade.

Impressive
I have been in the renovation business since 1983. I was sceptical after reading some reviews. However for the $ I decided to give it a try. We were living in the house & adding a 12’x24’room so dust was a concern as I always put plastic up to try & dust but it seems to find its way. I decide not to put up the plastic as an archway had to be incorporated. It took an awhile to get used to the vacuum hose attached. Once I got used to that it was amazing. I would say 98-99% dust free. Another step nobody mentioned is that prior to painting you do not need to dust the ceiling & walls down. As long as you use sanding screens & not sandpaper this should work great. Cheers
