Texas Knifemakers Supply1080 High Carbon Annealed Forging Steel Barstock for Knife Making - 1/8" x 1-1/2" x 11-1/2"

This is my favorite steel stock, they’ve been out for a while so I hope they come back with more. It’s a little bit wider than some other bar stock I’ve bought and the 1080 seems to be more forgiving than 1095 I’ve used and might come out of the heat-treating a little bit better for me.

I bought this steel and asked my brother to make me a kukri knife to chop plants and bramble down in my backyard. It took about six hours for him to forge and harden and he was able to make a very decent knife out of it. Definitely a reliable seller.

Dimensionally these were as described, but had a very hard time cold drilling 3/16 tang holes using cobalt and carbide tipped bits (multiple brands). I eventually had to soften the tang with a blowtorch just to get the holes cut.UPDATE: I was able to drill 1/4" holes through the other 2 (they came as a 3-pack) with no problem so maybe it was just the one bar I used first that had an annealing issue. I made a nice chef style knife with the one, so I would buy these again.

Made these two knives out of 1080 steel from Texas knife supply. This steel is very easy to heat treat. The dimensions of the steel are exactly as Texas describes them to be. Received my items quickly. Tough knives.

Great steel. Used a bar to make a knife and it turned out great. Heat treatment was pretty easy as well.
